Travel to WorldNET:

you can find on the IFA web site:
http://www.boocock.net/ifa/newsite/2003/location.htm

The entrance to Boddington Hall is from the A660 OTLEY ROAD

Plus there is a map location (the arrow marks the point, as always):

+++++++++++++

I understand at last year's event there was a problem inasmuch as damage was caused to property (not from our team, of course!) and the organisers are having to tighten up on procedures generally.

Each player will be designated a room number and that room is their responsibility for the duration of the weekend. So it is in your interest not to swap with anyone else. Please stick to the room number your are allotted! (if you do have to swap for some obscure reason, such as the noise coming from Gumbo's room and his all night partying, please inform me)

Each team has a designated accommodation co-ordinator (which is me). You get your keys from me – this is to prevent 1500+ players trooping along for keys.

I will be at Boddington Hall from around 2pm; there is little point getting there earlier, as you will not have access to rooms until 3pm.

You will be able to find me in the bar(!) at Boddington Hall.
As you come to the main entrance, the bar is to your first right. It's very central and very easy to find.
So, simply find me and I will pass on your keys and other fascinating information that I have collected for you.

++++++++++

You should all have seen the weather forecast for the weekend, and it looks like rain, but as has been pointed out elsewhere, that could be preferable to the recent heatwave!

++++++++++

Please be aware when returning on Sunday of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone which could have a major impact on the traffic.

++++++++++

Also look out for Surrey storming to the first ever 20:20 trophy (on the big screen in the bar, I hope!)

++++++++++

We have purchased a gazebo which will act as HQ (on the Saturday anyway). A central place for us to store bags etc. and generally congregate between games.

I will endeavour to have this pitched at a convenient location for all three pitches.

+++++++++++

Penants:
We have purchased 20 team penants.

The idea is that we present one to the opposing team AND one to the referee (obviously if we have the same ref more than once – and especially that bloke who looks like an extra from the Chuckle Brothers – then they don't get another one).

If we are presented with any penants, then these will go into a central pool to be given out as prizes at the end of the weekend.

As an aside, I am in receipt of the following: a Hearts penant, a silly QPR car sticker and a Gillingham book (these items are to be added to the fund).

+++++++++

Refreshments:
We have purchased 8 dozen bottles of Lucozade Sports Drinks (thanks to Gary Paul for arranging the appropriate discount)

We have purchased 10 new water bottles.
Quite a number of water bottles appear to have AWOL since last season, so if you do have one at home it would be great to reintroduce them to its natural habitat (no questions asked!)

+++++++

First Aid
Mrs Stedman (who knows about these thing) has run the rule over our First Aid Kit, has purchased fresh supplied and has passed it fit for action.

We have purchased ten instant ice packs.
These are always very useful. They are expensive though, if there is a genuine need for them, then that is what they are there for but I would appreciate if people did not wantonly waste them.

EVERYONE should have read and fully digested – to the point of regurgitation – the rules and schedule for the weekend.

If you haven't, please do so pronto.

Everything can be found on the IFA web site:
http://www.boocock.net/ifa/

If anything is unclear please contact me straight away.

One particular point to emphasise is your personal safety.

There is NO INSURANCE cover for these games, over and above any personal cover you may have.
The reason for this is long and tortuous, but it is because these games are not sanctioned by the FA – and in order for that to happen it would need all sorts of rules and regulations, which are simply not going to happen.

So, with the prospect of four or five hours of a physical contact sport, over the course of a weekend there is a very real possibility of physical harm and injuries.

Serious injuries are not uncommon in these games.

Our team, alone, has had two players who have suffered broken legs whilst playing for our team.
Dave Barker when we were in our early days and last year Gary Thomas suffered a very serious break with complications.

This is not to include numerous other knocks and bumps over the years.

Whilst these events did not occur at WorldNET, the tournament has not been immune from serious injury to other players.

We will have our own First Aid kit; if there are any players who have a degree of experience in First Aid will you please make yourself known. This doesn't mean that you are going to be lumbered for onerous chores, but it does mean that I know who I can call on.

If, over the weekend, you are in any doubts about your fitness, please do not try to be a hero – and play through the pain.
If you are not fit to play, please say so.
Likewise to other players, if you are aware of players carrying injuries please make someone aware of this and do not pressure them to play through the "pain barrier".

There will be no prizes for heroic gallantry.

I wanted to put something in the next issue of the BIAS newsletter (£1 per month, folks, you know it's worth it) about WorldNET.
Also when I finally get the time to reconstruct it, it will be included on the BIAS web site.

I just need to find someone stupid enough to write me 500-700 words about the weekend.

Any volunteers?

Your reward? . . . erm . . . I'll say nice things about you to everyone I know and you will be excluded from buying me a drink over the weekend.

Go on, admit it, you're tempted!

Any takers?
