I have just joined up and I,m finding difficalty where to write on the site. My main and only reason frankly for joining is because my cousin CHIC BRODIE seems to have such a lot of love STILL at Griffin park I would LOVE to TELL what I remember about CHARLES (CHIC) and hopefully hear some nice stories. Charles was your keeper in the 70,s which I,m sure you will know. Please write back if possible

As I said, I'm really the wrong one to ask. But others on here surely have memories. Keep asking (it bumps it to the top of the threads) and you'll get some memories.
To tell the absolute truth, there is that one 'incident' that I know Mr. Brodie best by. Others will have to fill in the details.

Funny, he featured on a video I saw recently about own goals and gaffs with the unfunny Rory McGrath. Millwall fans chucked a grenade at him in 1965 but his career was ended when a dog bit him on the balls in 1970 against Col U. Apparently. Also - apparently - he's a cabbie now.

I remember him getting bitten by a dog at Griffin park.
I think it was against Colchester but I am probably wrong .
Good keeper .
I think he used to share the no 1 shirt with Gordon Phillips who was a good keeper as well

Remember Chic very well as a good reliable keeper. Played 199 games for us from 1964 until that bloody dog ended his Brentford career in November 1970.
He was playing in November 1965 when Millwall fans threw a (fortunately dummy) grenade into his goalmouth.
Think I'm right in saying that in three successive matches he played for three clubs in three divisions (Aldershot, Wolves and Northampton). He played for Northampton when they went from the third to the first divisions and possibly back down agian before he joined us.

Yes I can remember Chic Brodie he was a class keeper, I think he made his debut in September 63 against the Posh, the players wearing black armbands because president Kennedy was assassinated We won2-0 if I'm wrong will fellow fans please tell me. I was actually at the match,vColchester away when the dog bit him not sure it was in his Max Walls though.
I can also remember that his Son was murdered, I think the man must have had some sorrow in his latter years.
My memories of Chic is a very good reliable keeper, that was very loyal to Brentford football club. He shared the keeping duties with another good bees keeper in Gordon Phillips.

Eric
Happy to post about one of my chilhood heroes.
Chic was a fantastic ambassador for the club and ALWAYS made time for the fans (especially the kids) to whom he would talk before, after, and often during the match.
If you search (using the button on the top right) for "Chic Brodie" you will find numerous threads with complementary comments about Chic, sadly taken from us far too early.
I can think of three incidents.
The dummy hand grenade thrown into his penalty area by Millwall fans with Chic doing a great Linford Christie impersonation (I think he was in the tunnel by the time it bounced, well wouldn't you be?).
The collapsing crossbar which poleaxed him.
The dog on the pitch collision incident .
All in all a bloody nice bloke now reunited with his son. Hope he looks down sometimes and has a laugh.

I will never forget Chic, he was a huge part of my Brentford life in the 60's. Spoke to him several times and he always dealt with you very respectfully. Had a few brews so forgive my grammar! As a life long supporter and a regular in the 60's and 70's Chic epitomised the Bees!

I was there with York Bee at the Rec when Chic came along. He was our absolute hero and one of the reasons why we have kept supporting our club through the years.
My Dad was a Policeman on duty for the Millwall match when the grenade was thrown from the terraces. First Metropolitan Police Officer to wear Brown Serge trousers! (I'll ask him for more details and post here later)
However, poor Chic. A hand grenade as well as Hugh Curran and Pat terry to contend with!
Chic, you were one of the greatest and will NEVER be forgotten by true Bees!

A funny story involving Chic and his taxi occurred near Westminster Bridge. He was in collision with a Jaguar - and the driver of the Jag - Geoff Hurst - the year after the World Cup.
Also, the dog didn't bite him - its head collided with his knee and caused ligament damage. The game was on TV. He went on to play for Margate and was on the wrong end of a 13-2 Cup defeat by Bournemouth. I believe Ted MacDougall scored 8 or 9.
Finally, there's the game against Oxford Utd in 1966. Oxford score in the 10th minute. Chic in trying to stop the goal is injured and carried off. No sub goalies in those days. Mel Scott takes over and the Bees go on to win 5 - 1 !!
