The Freight Rover loss to Wigan was a suprise and disappointment.....plus Paul Roberts kept upsetting my girl at the post match "party@ at the Moat House on the A1....

Huddersfield penalty shoot out loss left a bad taste, due to only one team going up that year.............

But for a sheer let down the game v Stoke at the Millenium takes the prize. Only missed two games all season and really felt convinced we would go up, despite the odds of Noades/Sales & no dosh........

Just felt very flat afterwards (wish my stomach would) :(

Have to agree with Marky about the above two. Well pissed off after both games. Also the game at Bristol when we went down. The team played sh*t, without passion.

:( :( :( :( :( :(

Losing to Bristol City in '93

Losing to Crewe at Wembley in '97

Losing to Stoke in Cardiff in '02

Reading scoring in the last few minutes in the last game of the season in '02

Losing to Huddersfield when by right we should have gone up.

All bad moments for me..........

Selling John O'Mara for a relatively small sum after his goals had got us promoted (next season's top scorer got, I think, 6 goals and that may have included a penalty or 2)

Going down from Div 1 at Bristol City, esp when seeing next day that Brum only leap-frogged us due to an offside goal.

But I think the Huddersfield play-off defeat was the worst: perhaps we would have lost the final, but to go out, after coming second, to a side 3 places below us, and on penalties! I still think the higher-place club should get an advantage in play offs, eg if sides level they go through

The defeat to Huddersfield in the play-offs just about pips Stoke at the Millenium Stadium as my worst moment.

In some ways though it was also an important moment because before that defeat I went along to Bees as a 'slightly biased neutral', after that game I was a fully committed Bees fan.

In fact I am beginning to feel that the bad moments encourage my Bees obsession. :suspect:

When we got relegated from Div one. Couldn't go to the last game but watched the BBC fulltime scores. I missed the score but the Beeb put the table up showing we were still above Brum so safe. We cracked open the beer and then 10 minutes later they said they had made a mistake... rotten sods :(

Has to be that Stoke Match. Against Wigan, Port Vale & Crewe I never REALLY believed that we would win - but travelling down to Cardiff, I was totally convinced that we would win that game against Stoke, take our rightful (based on the team we had - not sure how many we would have kept even if we had gone up) place in Div 1 & totally compensate for the misery that was the Reading game.

I agree with all the above, particularily the huddersfield play-off. I also remember the moment when Mahoney broke his leg and the great Joseph/Mahoney era came to an end

That Crewe game at Wembley. There was a feeling about that if we didn't get this things would fall apart and they sure did! I came away from that game thinking we had hit the end of an era.

I listened to the match reports on the old LBC radio station and wasn't the delay with the result caused by Birmingham's game being a late kick-off? It was awful - I remember the guy doing the commentary (Phil Mison - what became of him?) saying "Brentford - are they up or down?" and then the dreadful truth was finally confirmed.

There have been other numerous upsetting moments, most of them already well documented - play off semi-finals and finals, other crucial, must-win games (which Brentford FC rarely do e.g. Reading) and Freight Rover/LDV cup games. The game against Port Vale sticks out for me - it poured with rain non-stop and when I got home, there was a message on the phone informing me that my dear uncle Ted (another lifelong Brentford supporter) had died.

Well - my family never had any sense of timing - but it ended another depressing day.

Where are my pills?

Watching VFTB & Mr O'Shea's wrestle in the dog exercise/toilet area of a pub in Hayling Island pre Pompey and then having to share a minibus with the dogsh1t caked combatants all the way back.

Has to be Huddersfield in the Play-Offs and the Reading game for me. I had the feeling the Stoke game was one match too many when travelling down to Cardiff.
