Can't help with Carlisle but I remember the Newport Co. game in our Div 4 promotion season very well. This was at Easter time and we travelled by special train from Ealing Broadway and then were bussed to the ground

Newport were actually quite good at the time and especially so at home. The ground was dump though. We shared the covered end with the Newport mob and yes the toilets were a neutral zone between the two.

We won 2-1 and then beat Aldershot.

I do remember a later trip to Newport just before they were thrwon out of th league when the game was abandoned due to fog I think this was the same season as the famous 6 - 0 rout in the FRT

I was at the fog abandoned game at Somerton Park. Also went there one year (only half an hours drive from home), dropped the family off in Newport centre to shop, parked up near the ground, walked up over the railway bridge with about 15 minutes to ko, only to find the ground EMPTY. Apparently the game had been postponed the night before due to one team's players all having the flu (can't remember if it was them or us), but I hadn't seen a newspaper or TV to find this out. Ended up finding the family and joining in with the shopping (Oh Joy!!!!!).
