Does anyone know what he's up to now?
I could swear blind I just saw him getting into an Amtrak courier van in Wimbledon.

I'd imagine he became a carpet fitter after he quit football. He seemed to spend most of his time on the floor when he played for us....

Crap. But a legend all the same. Scored some important goals too!

Remember his professional foul at Birmingham in 91-92 when he hauled down their stiriker who was clean through after about 15 minutes. Saved us a goal and we won 2-0 with 10 men.
Therefore he is a leg-end.

Tranmere play off semi-final. Last minute lob over the goalkeeper to draw 2-2. Shame we didn't get what we deserved at their place. Not the best player but certainly not the worst.

I remember that foul at Birmingham. I think he chased the bloke from the halfway line, realised he wasn't going to get in front of him and just tripped him up!!! Very funny afterwards once we had won. Seem to remember it being a Boxing Day game?
Think he took a lot more stick than he deserved as he always put the effort in even if the skill was lacking occasionally! And did pop up with some important goals.
And does anyone else remember when he got booked at Reading towards the ed of the 91-92 season? He tangled with a defender and ended up on the floor needing treatment. But Readings keeper just palced the ball and kicked it against him while he was on the floor and the ref booked him for not getting out of the way, then let the trainer on!!!
Also i am sure that he once won a television as a man of the match when Rumblelows sponsored the league cup and he duly gave it away to one of our disabled supporters! Top class gesture from a really decent fella.

Yeah, that lob over Nixon was something else. Cue pandemonium.
Definitely not the worst.

I remember him at an orient game away. Two strange incidences:
One during a lull in the play an Orient supporter shouted out some thing like: "I remember you when you played for us Godfrey, that game in the cup at Tranmere!" Godfrey raised his hand to the guy in aknowledgement..."YOU WERE CRAP!" - brought a smile to everyones faces including the players. Maybe even Godfrey himself.
Then he got injured and we had used all our subs, so Perryman told him to stay on the pitch at around the halfway mark even though he coudn't run. That way the Orient defenders were not sure they could push forwards just in case he was bluffing or maybe had a last bit of a go. Definitely his most memorable game! :)

One thing we should all remember about "King Godders" is without his last minute goal away at Swindon (Anglo-Italian)
we would never have been privlaged to see the Bees in Europe!!
And my word he had a very fine barnet too!!

I remember that goal well...deep into injury time. Tranmere had that annoying Cooper that did somersaults when he scored.
Kevin kindly visited me in my Tooting High Street shop a couple of months before that game when I was a manager at Ladbrokes....top down to earth bloke!

Sadly that annoying Cooper died earlier this year.

:( Sorry...wasn't aware. If I remember correctly, the league and playoff home games were just a few weeks apart and Steve (?) Cooper must have scored in both games as I took a dislike to his celebrations. RIP.

Godfrey was the first player I ever regarded as 'crap' as despite being too young to really appreciate the intricacies of the game at that point I seem to recall him getting slated by everyone on the Brook Road terrace for the full 90 minutes every game. Being an impressionable youth I would join in with some enthusiasm!
Ah, it brings a tear to my eye!

I hate hearing stuff like that. I always remeber hiscelebration and his kajagoogoo haircut and it wound me up too. How can such a good athlete die so young.. horrible thing!
