Carrying on from the theme of the Firefox thread (it's great). What are the alternatives to Outlook and Outlook Express.

At the moment, I use a heavily Microsoft-dependent solution of Hotmail, linked to Outlook. But I'd be delighted to find an alternative that doesn't support the Gates Empire.

At work we have migrated from outlook to lotus notes for e-mail and calendars. Once it settled down I have found it a lot more friendly than Outlook, easier to use etc.

Is it free?

There is the mozilla quite referred to on the Firefox page. Not used it or investigated it though. I also doubt it "integrates" into hotmail as well.

No mention there of the ability to create an HTTP mail account (like Hotmail).

I guess my problem is that the ISP I use is brilliant, apart from its email server, which is always faulty and they have a spam filter on which does not give you the option of rescuing emails it has wrongly decided are spam. So I use Hotmail. Maybe I should just put up with Outlook until I find a better solution.

So outlook can read email from any HTTP mail site  How does it do that?

I don't know if it can, but it has settings to read from HTTP sites - and you can choose between Hotmail, MSN and Other on a drop down menu.
