The Warren Bees will be visiting Las Vegas in the near future.I have never placed a bet in my life, but really want to do a bit of gambling while we're there.Am I better off playing machines, cards or roulette,or will it not make the slightest bit of difference because the house always wins?

Play all off them and if you win, I will only take 15% :sorted:

blackjack is the game with the best odds of winning (the house only has about a 3% edge) ........ i'd look on the net for ways of playing....... ie do you hit with a 8/4 if the dealer has a 6. etc...
i won big at Caesar's Palace ($12.5) :p
stay away from Keno.. slots are fun... i played coz u get drinks :) my strategy at the bar was to play poker machines.. in the states u can gamble between 1-5 quarters per play on these machines..... i found that by maxing out the bet (5) until i won, then minimum (1) for a couple, i'd do pretty well.... of course it's about deciding which cards to hold lol
won $300 for hitting 5 aces at Ballagio ...
they offer beginners classes on all the games (you have to be up early for them)..
i stayed away from craps (don't understand) and roulette (luck)
ps. stand on 12 (8/4) if the dealer has a 6
as he has to hit on 16

Playing the tables is more fun than the machines, you have a decent chance of winning on Blackjack. I spread my time playing Poker on the machines, Blackjack on the tables and Roulette.
Spend a bit of time watching Blackjack and Roulette being played before taking the plunge yourself.
If I had a bit of change I would go on the machines but never expected to win big.
Just treat it as a bit of fun, you usually get a bit of banter on the Blackjack table. Even if you can last your money for a while and end up losing it after an hour or so, it fills a bit of time.

One extra piece of advice - while video poker is good fun, avoid sitting down at a table with real players unless you are either an expert at the game or want to be separated from your money very quickly. You will be playing against professionals and you would need exceptional luck just to break even.
A lot of the casinos will also have gift shops attached where you can pick up some goodies on betting strategy, last time I was there I picked up a few credit card sized tip sheets for a couple of dollars on blackjack, video poker etc.
