Description of ground
Mill Road is one of a number of County League grounds in a particularly attractive setting, nestling beneath Arundel Castle, close to the River Arun. However, the proximity to the river means that the pitch is inclined to become very heavy. Entrance to the ground is gained at the far end of a pay and display car park, and this is often the best place to park on match days, although there is some provision for parking immediately outside the entrance to the ground. A small clubhouse is just inside the main gate, to the right, behind the near goal. To the left are the dressing rooms. Just around from the clubhouse is a small covered area. This is pretty basic but does provide respite from the elements when the weather is bad. The main stand straddles the half way line on the far side of the pitch. This is unseated, although chairs are provided from which to watch the action if desired. Pasture borders the opposite touchline, where cows can sometimes be seen (and heard) grazing. If one doesn’t fancy trekking ‘round to the clubhouse at half-time, pre-match and half-time refreshments are available from a small hut close to the main stand. In seasons past Arundel had a great reputation for their bacon rolls!

With the castle in the back ground, it's like a (very) small millenium stadium!!

Arundel play in the same Division as my 2nd team (East Grinstead) .. !!
I only started watching East Grinstead, cos Brentford were playing so bad a couple of years back I thought I’d try and see a worse team than us and then I’d realise how good Brentford really we’re !! Logic there somewhere .. also East Grinstead’s home ground is just 50 yards from where we live.
East Grinstead were terrible, made Brentford FC look like we played like Brazil.
If we play our 1st team at Arundel, I’ll be VERY surprised.
Arundel finished 6th last season, East Grinstead finished 9th.
I'll be going to this game .. Maybe they'll be a dog there somewhere ?!
Why are we playing this lot ?!

i live in arundel, having moved from south ealing five years ago. usual crowd about 75 - 100 in the sussex league. quite a good side but not pretty football!! semi end of semi pro. a few bob in their boots i gather!
i asked the bloke chalking up the fixture on the gate how the match came about and he thought it was something to do with the Bence family connection (paul bence comes from down here and played for the bees in the 1970s). also MD has family connections in this part of the world.
pub: 'the black rabbit' half a mile down mill road past the ground. on the river. also cheapish food.
white hart is ok. red lion nothing special. eagle is good beer but no food at night. very good chippie by the bridge!
ground is ten minutes walk from arundel station which is 90 minutes from victoria. check last train back tho....
quite a few bees fans live in bognor - five miles from arundel.
enjoy!

norfolk arms stables bar is ok ---- bit quiet and stuffy.
just spoken to the arundel manager (who also runs the putting green and cafe!) who tells me that a brentford physio (who he thinks is MD's father in law???) saw arundel play last season, liked the way they play and said he would see if he could sort out a friendly. and he did! my earlier post about the paul bence connection is wrong - even though the bence family do come from these parts.....

train from victoria to arundel (bognor / portsmouth train) or connect with arundel train at clapham junction.
90 minutes. £18 return unless you have a rail card? out of arundel station. 6 minutes walk to the town. go over the river bridge (river arun - fastest flowing river the the country - useless info or what!). turn right over the bridge. past the monastry ruins. ground 2 minutes on mill road by arundel castle. next to the cow field. pubs etc as on earlier post. or tea and sandwiches and home-made cakes at the putting green -- owned by the arundel fc manager. decent beer in the arundel fc ('the mullets') clubhouse.
up the bees.
