At this event Martin Allen made the following comments/points:
1. "The guys gave themselves a 100% but they don’t make it easy for themselves. They put a lot of effort and commitment as they did last Saturday. The first 20 mins we looked a bit hurried and rushed, but then we settled down a bit and passed the ball a bit better. It was a good performance at the end of the day. But we have played 2 games and conceded 6 goals. That’s not something that I'm happy with. We have worked hard in pre-season not to concede goals and after 5 weeks work of trying not to concede goals we have given away 6 in two games. There were again a couple of individual errors and they are costly. You cannot afford to make these sloppy, bad decisions. These have to be eradicated if this team will continue to win. We have got talent to score goals, but we cannot concede goals as we are doing at the moment."
2. He said that Matt Somner's "red card" tackle was one of the top tackles he had seen in all his life. In fact he described it as "brilliant" and "fastastic". He went on to say that Matt Somner deserves his place on the bench and that he was happy to put him on, even though he has given him a free transfer. He was asked if he would appeal and he said that he'll be watching the video tonight and decide then. He went on to say "I can absolutely, categorically, absolutely, categorically, definitely tell you that Matt Somner will not be fined by me for that tackle as it was a whole-hearted challenge to win the football in my opinion"
3. He said it was a fantastic night for the supporters and 3 points on the board which is always welcome for the players, the supporters and for himself.
4. Allen said that Turner has done very well in the two games. He said "you might think I am contradicting myself as we have conceded 6 goals and he is a centre-back. In my opinion he has been superb in the two games. But in the two games there have been individual errors, which have been minor, but have been costly and been punished each time"
5. In summary he said "We have got 3 points, all the players were great and our fans where brilliant, weren’t they? Having gone down 2-1 just before the break they could have turned. There were 5261 here tonight but there will be more – some must have been on their summer holidays. Was Eastenders any good tonight? Something must have been happening that there weren’t more. There will be."
6. About injuries Harrold will be back in contention at the weekend. Tabb has a little knock. Myers will probably miss out on Saturday. Frampton got a knock tonight. Anyone with knocks will come in this morning.
