My new pc starts up then dies

I´ve just built myself a new pc.
I´ve only connected my cd rom drive as master on ide2.
My new 80gb hard drive on ide1
When i turn it on it says american systems(?) then 512mb ram detected so that worked.Then turns off!!!!
I haven´t connected the front usbs or the sound.
cdrom socket goes in both ways.

mobo set to normal instead of clear.

I haven´t got a cpu fan!!!!
It only runs for about 3 secs do you think it´s knackered?
I´ll buy one in the morning.

I am sorry about that, I thought I put a retail cpu rather than an oem as it comes with a fan. :blush Most motherboards will not boot at all without a cpu fan to stop it from blowing up. Is the damage visible? If not you could always try returning it as a duff.
