Is it feasible to do a day return to Stockport? No problem getting there but last flight from Manchester back to Heathrow is at 18:25. How is the best way to get back to Manchester Airport and how long will it take from Stockport?

14 of us made it the first year we tried ...about 2/3 years back? less said about last year the better :sneakoff: Actually the more said the funnier come to think of it! lol

Perfectly feasible... you can `check in` for both legs at Heathrow anyway.. so only need to be at the airport for about 6pm... make sure you have a reliable cabby waiting to pick you up :sorted:

Will probably see you there mate... will post here what flights (if any) we are on

With BMI, 11.15 out 18.50 rtn is £88

With BA, 11.45 out 1825 rtn is £80

Based on past experience, I know which one's got a better chance of getting there.

If you wanna spend the day in Stockporto/Manchester it's £57 if going on the 0700 from LHR with BMI and coming back at 1850. I suppose if the plane ****s up again it'll give people time to train it up there rofl

Right - Money is dead tight at the moment, the days of throwing money away with reckless abandon are long gone I am afraid.

Therefore I have booked two one way tickets from Manchester to London on the 18:50 for a bargain price of £7 each, £26 each after taxes. Still be a laugh. Could have got a similar price for the way up, but that is on the 7am, and thats just stupid :imwith: So now it just leaves the question of getting up there... no cheapo singles available at present, but will be scouring the site in the hope they become available - otherwise this cost cutting exercise would have all been in vain

Anyone else DEFINITELY booked up on planes either way?

As someone who lives only 3 miles from Stockport, why not get the train up (10 mins from ground), the new virgin train takes less than 2 hours from Euston and stops at Stockport.

Manchester Airport is about 15 min drive from the football ground, probably about £10 - £12 in cab. If you need to be at the airport for 6pm and leave the ground at 5pm, there would be plenty of time to get there. Go to the station and there will be cab's aplenty.
Book it early enough, I'm sure a return ticket could be got for £25 - £40 max.

Got my nephew up from Northampton for the match, otherwise would offer my services.

Like my fellow northerner above...

I thought I'd put my advice in for taxis from the airport.
I often have to get a cab home from the airport after a night out in Manchester. (Trains run pretty much all night to the airport) Normally for me, living outside the Manchester boundary (I don't live in Stockport either though - so this advice might be totally redundant....), a black cab is a big no-no from the airport. Bit too pricy, especially late at night. But to Stockport in the daytime probably not too much. (can't say I've ever done the journey in a cab)

I now use a firm that go by the name airportcarz..(classy!!). They seem to have set up recently and have a fleet of minibus type cabs (i have always had 16 seaters)...ideal for larger groups. :sorted:
First time i used them it cost me and the missus £6 to get home, whereas a black cab is at least double, maybe triple that!

http://www.airportcarz.com/
is their site, they are bookable, probably for there and back - online quotation/booking doesn't seem to work for manchester...

Also found this when looking for their website:

http://www.manairport.co.uk/web.nsf/Content/TaxiGettingToAndFrom

and

http://www.manchesteronline.co.uk/news/s/60/60363_airport_black_cab_backlash.html

seems to explain why they are cheaper!

Free advertising announcement over!

Unfortunately for my nearest away game of the season....I am in Cornwall until the Saturday morning. .......early start required!
