Can anybody suggest the best watering-hole for the pre match pint/gallon in Northampton?

I dont recall a pub near to the ground. Theres one, quite a small one, just outside the station and theres a sports bar nearer the ground which is quite nice but not really a pub atmosphere. This is prob where I will be!!

The Northampton saints rugby ground is nearby. They're very friendly in there, but might get fed up with all the "OWUSUUUS".

One of their unofficial sites says that all the places near the ground won't let away fans in and that they should try somewhere in the town centre or on the way to the ground instead. Anyone know if thats true, or just applies to away teams with a 'reputation', or whether its just a case of not jumping up and down and singing Bees songs in the Happy Eater or whatever it is they've got on their doorstep?

Not sure where the above information on drinking holes was found but the footy grounds guide (cant memba address!) didn't mention it. However, I shall be donned in red and white (wot colors we playin in!?) and seeking refreshment so hope someone gives us sum info. Worst comes to the worst we can always go to an offy and drink on the hill that overlooks the stadium, really is quite nice there!

My guide book suggests the Old Black Lion, by the railway station. The only one near the ground that admits away fans is a "large American-style bar/restaurant" - yuk!
