I do. And I'll tell you why:

Every tosser who has no clue about football, the passion / hurt involved and who have had absolutely no interest in football for the previous 47 months, suddenly become experts. You are then subjected to hours of their ill informed tactical opinions until England are eliminated, after which they will sulk for a day as if a close family member has died before forgetting about the whole thing.

And most importantly -

It now appears that the World Cup invariably comes about exactly at a time when an unnamed football club have just broken my heart and I want nothing to do with football for at least three months. I don't wish to watch it, I don't want to read about and I sure as hell don't want to listen to a load of dippy bints / geeks talking about it on the train.

I love it.
Its the one time everyone in the pubs supports the same team and the atmoshpere is electric. I can get up in the morning after the inevitable Quarters/semi-final defeat of England and not feel sick in the stomach like when Brentford lose a big game.

But do you know what? Much as I like to see England do well, the team means nothing to me in comparison to Brentford. Even if England win the World Cup, the summer will still have been a footballing failure.

I love it.

I agree about all the people who suddenly become experts - don't listen to the minges. Just sit back and enjoy it.

Today, I hate football. Once I get over the tedious tea and sympathy from work today, I'm going to forget about it and concentrate on the cricket. A couple of weeks away before the World Cup and I'l be fully recharged, waiting for the games to start. Then onto GP in August.

You can't beat the Bees on a Saturday or England on the box. :sorted:

Fully agree with Mr Guildford. I have an almost total lack of interest in the world cup this year. I don't like the majority of the players or the manager and I expect us to do really badly. The level of commitment in some of our squad fills me with unbridled fury that these overpaid ****s are allowed to live in england never mind represent it.

Probably change my mind as soon as it starts, but at the moment I am in full bah humbug mode about the whole thing.

:D I have no idea what you are talking about and I will undoubtedly be one of these types on boxing day this year. I now intend to yell "TIMED OUT" if they take too long.

Hopefully it will be a big event downunder, which will hasten the demise of that utter farce of a game that is called Aussie Rules towards the dustbin of history.

For me, the world cup isn't just about England and whether they are successful or not.

I remember watching Argentina 78 games and then going down the park afterwards and pretending to be Rainer Bonhof, curling in a freekick (or not as the case may be). It was bloody exciting and for me, it still is. Panini stickers, superb!

I enjoy watching the other games, probably more than the England games (cos the result doesn't matter). Isn't this the case for all true football fans?

I'm not one of the 'let's put a St. George Cross flag on the car cos England are in a tournament every 2 years' brigade.

I don't mind cos I pulled out Argentina and Germany in the office sweepstakes :D

Always like seeing teams such as USA and Mexico, and even South Korea and Costa Rica play, just something different

Regarding ***** in the pub do what I do. If they make an inane point challenge them. If they say Peter Crouch is shit ask them why? When they reply oh just because he is, tell them that just because Nuts and Zoo etc, the bloke behind you says he is doesn't actually mean he is. Do you just dislike him because he is too big and doesn't look like a footballer? Have you ever seen him play? Because if you actually had you might notice his all round game is excellent and he holds the ball up well and brings players into the game. He may not be a natural goalscorer but he can create chances for other players ala Gerrard on Saturday.

It soon shuts the idoits up and sometimes i've embarrsed them so much that they leave :D
