I'm off to Hamburg Sunday. Unfortunately its not for the WC but business. :( However I'm hoping they'll have fixed some suitable hospitality for me as my German colleagues are mostly football mad!

Did anyone else catch Brickie Chap on the telly celebrating at the end of the game, he was just at the bottom of the screen.
I wonder who did the face paint for him?
Next time, please keep your shirt on, you will frighten half the country walking around like that!!!lol

Just returned from Hamburg. Monday night great water cannon and laser event where vidoes projected onto coloured water! Then all tall buildings have "goals" on them and laser beams crossed the city linking every goal.
Then the Italians returned to Hamburg blasting their car horns, followed by a loan Ghana woman shoutiing "Ghana! Ghana!" And then some Dutch shouting Holland Holland. Great freindly atmosphere. Coming back on Tuesday half the plane was full of Ghanians, including Hugh Quarshie (Ric in Holby and appeared in Star Wars) sitting in front of me.

Came back from a week in Mainz on Monday. We stayed there because had tickets for Togo v South Korea in Frankfurt. Popped into Frankfurt after the England game and met some other GPGers and got extremely drunk. I have to say I really enjoyed it.
The Germans are friendly, their trains - at least the local ones - are as reassuringly rubbish as ours, the beer was great and met loads of people out there.
I was surprised to meet Americans with a real love of football and who to a man couldn't believe how much drinking the English do.
But it was cool and the match was entertaining. The South Koreans are mental and their support was great throughout the game but Togo had a man sent off by Graham "Three Cards" Poll, which killed it off really.
I just wish I had the money, connections and understanding employer to stay out there for longer and see more games at the stadiums.

I noticed this too - the inter city services are no better either. An elderly women spent half the (delayed) journey from Hamburg to Hannover apologising to me in true German style for the poor service - " You must have a very bad impression of our country" :D
Trains apart though, the Germans have done a great job. I got back from Berlin yesterday after a week out there watching Ukraine's games with Tunisia and Saudia Arabia, Mexico v Portugal and Poland v Costa Rica, and even a miserable old so and so like me had a great time. I just can't begin to descibe the electric atmosphere out there at the moment, the noise, the colour, the carnival - not just at the matches either but at the fan fests and on the streets. The organisation is first class, the policing appears to have been good so far (subject to reports on events in Stuggart) and the German people have been fantastic hosts. I really do hope that the tournament helps some people (and tabloid editors) to see the Germans and Germany as something more than 1940's
caricatures.
Oh, and one other thing - it also helps to prove that the English are the best fans in the world. Wherever you go, wherever there is a match, the one thing you can be sure about is that there will be large numbers of English there to see it.

Did anyone see a well-known GPG'er with his top off on telly today?
