Ok, I reckon most of you have this game....so how would you like to sign players for free???? Ahhhh I see many of you are eager to learn, right:-
1. Make an offer at least twice the players value.
2. When the club accept (usually a couple of days) go to offer contract.
3. At the 'set player status' screen (where you say whether they will be backup, a hot prospect etc.) click on the players name to go into his profile.
4. Go to the drop-down menu in the top right hand corner, and select 'withdraw bid'
5. Withdraw bid.
6. Do NOT leave the players profile. Go back to the drop-down menu and select 'make offer' or whatever the option is!
7. Set the value to £0, and click 'ok'.
8. Go back to the players profile, and use the 'back' button at the bottom of the screen.
9. Continue with the contract negotiations.
10. If the player accepts, he's yours for free! BUT you must follow these instructions carefully...if you dont muck about with the offer at the 'set squad status' bit you WONT be able to get player for free.
Hope you appreciate the help, now a request!!!
Which players on the game are continuaslly (sp) good? Most of the Brentford players are useless. And how important is coaching and scouting?
Also, which of the series do you folks prefer? My favourite is CM 97-98, the latest one is too complicated in my opinion.
Last thing (phew!!) can anyone match my collection of CM's?
I've got:
CM 93
CM 2 (95-96 season)
CM 97-98
CM 99-00 on PC +
CM 93
CM 94 on Atari ST as well as a copy of that rubbishy Premier Manager (no.3 I think)on PC.

What version of cm 99-00 does that run on. I know there is one patch that updates some stuff, but i haven't downloaded that yet. Rowlands is the Bees best player in the game. I'm afraid i can't beat your collection though!

It's a while since I played, because I gave up once I had won the Premiership, FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League, World Club Championship (Tokyo variety) and World Club Championship (the other variety). (Strangely the Champions League was the first of these I won!)

However, off the top of my head....

GK Magnus Hedman, but Jason Pearcey ain't that bad.
RB Danny Boxall's OK but you may want to get Ricky Newman from Millwall.
LB Ijah's hard to beat, and Hermann makes a useful LB. Also Paul Dillon from Rotherham (?)
CB Paul Dillon is good in this position too. Try David Woozley from Palace (after a year or two). There are some omore. If I remember them I'll add them later.

CM Denis Boyle from Queen of the South. More later.
AMC Rowlands, of course. Also you can try Geoff Pitcher, of Kingstonian, and Freddy Ljungberg.

SC Paul Ifill of Millwall is England class. Tonton Zola Moukoko (yes, really), from Derby's reserves is the business.

Play 5-3-2 attacking. Direct tactics in Div2, Mixed in Div1 and Short in Prem. Get Ray Lew to be your assistant.

Basically buy most of the Millwall squad if you want success. Phil Smith, Billy Mead, Marc Bircham, Ifill, Cahill, Harris. They're all fairly inexpensive and turn out to be excellent.

If you would like to get quality, young players from anywhere in the world very cheap, employ scouts for all over the world. I bought a 17yr old for free and sold him to Newcastle for £8 million in two seasons. I think he came from Denmark or Sweden.

CM 99-00
Ijah does the business for me. Gareth Graham is always outstanding as well. By the way, I have found that 433 tactics, with a big striker in the middle often gets plenty of goals. Adam Nowland, Martin Butler, and Andy Cooke have scored almost 90 goals between them as I won the 1st Division to go into the Premiership!! I'm a bit worried now as I have just found that I have no money to sort out my team. Gareth Graham, does not make a good captain until he is about 24/25 yrs old. Get a keeper called Steve Edwards if he exists on your version, and David Hughes (Central Defender) is a useful buy. Any more tips, as I am a CM3 fanatic, let me know, and I'll see if I can help.

I've had all the games except the first one for the pc. I had the earlier ones on my amiga. All the cm games are class because they are the most realistic of their time, true others are fun but they can't match the detail of the game.

I cant believe no ones mentioned David Collins true lower division class centre forward, Andri Sigborrson is a good cheap player for higher division teams. Other good players for lower division clubs are Steve Palmer(telford), Scott Hucherby(telford), Michael Duff(cheltenham), Gavin Williams(hereford), Paul fewings(hereford), Quy(hereford). Other good player for 1st and prem clubs who are cheapish are Alan Pouton, Mattias Asper, Kennedy B(something cant remeber fall name), Zlatan M(something), Richard Spong, Kabba S(something) and Lee Kendall.

My prefferd tactic is 3-4-3 get loads of goals with that but without a decent goalkeeper your'll concide loads.

I've signed Gavin Williams on 99-00, seems pretty good. Cant really remember much, been a few months since I played it. At the moment I'm using 97-98, still the best in my opinion. Might have a game of 99-00 tomorrow, but its one of those games you have to dedicate a lot of time too, whereas the older versions you can use for, say 30 mins, and have done so much more. I feel they tried to do too much in the latest ones, leaving light users out of it. My version was a rejected birthday present by my brother simply because he couldnt be bothered with all the training, scouting and the amount of time everything takes to do. And you have to do these things in order to do well in the game.

99-00 is a great game once you get into it, but if you cant/dont have the patience stick to older versions, you can normally get them for £5-10 on budget.
