When I first started coming to Griffin Park immediately outside the Ealing Road entrance there was a house that allowed you to park your bike or motorcycle for 6d. Anyone remember?

I used to leave my bike in the garden of the house on the corner of Brook Road and Clifden Road, this was in the late sixties. There used to be about 100 bikes in there sometimes. The family who ran a similar operation at the Ealing Road end were the Lawrences, an old Brentford family and long-term Bees supporters. Members of the family are neighbours of mine in Hanwell nowadays.

Yeh! I remember seeing this.
My old man also used to take his bike and park it there before he started dragging me and my brother down there.
Lived in Acton Vale (where most were Quarter Pound Rubbish supporters) and used to walk to Acton Town Hall and get a 55 bus to Popes Lane, then walk down.

I used to cycle from Hanworth,(Amesbury Road)and leave my bike at a house in Ealing Road for pennies, even had a Brentford flag on the front mudguard, days gone, not forgotten.

Just found this topic, this where I used to park my bike in the 50s all laid out, used to be at least 8/10 places where you could do this, but this was the best, in those days you used to have programme sellers outside so you could read the programme in the queue, By being a seller you got in for free, strange I always managed to sell out about 10mins to KO

My dad got a car in 1967 and we started to drive up, Coach to Turnham Green and bus back before then, We used to park outside my Nans house in Greet Road, opposite Ealing Road entrance who used to put out a couple of chairs and a board across to save our parking spot. After the game it was back for Tea before going to the shop on the corner of Greet Road and Pottery (?) Road to get the Classifieds (News & Standard) Happy days indeed especially when Shepherds Bush scum had lost :)

When I lived on the Brentford /Isleworth border I used to walk to home games and cut through the Butts on my way to the game. There was a coach parked there which had a sign in it Bracknell branch of the Brentford supporters club. This was at most home games in the sixties. Also the cars used to park in the middle of the road in the Butts ,you could normally gauge how big the crowd was going to be by the number of cars there.

My (late) father used to park his bicycle there, after cycling from Greenford.

C'mon you Bees!

My dad used to tell me he did similar with regards his bike or mates doing similar.

He also said he remembers queuing for an hour and more to get into GP and them locking the gates for London derbies well before kick off etc.

I would say to any BEES fan, who have a father who supported the club in it`s hey day to listen to his stories of those heddy times for the BEES. I was once bored by them, but now can`t get enough.

Just reading through these posts brings back so many good memories and makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck... seeing GP full to the rafters was an experience ..I used to stand on the concrete blocks holding up the then new floodlight pylons at the Royal Oak end in order to get a better view. When I first started going to GP the floodlights used to be housed along the Ealing Road and New Road roofs.

Oh happy days !!! :sorted: :sorted:

On entering the ground at The Brook Road end, climbing up the steps in the corner between The Royal Oak and New Road the ground would just open up before you. As know for a midweek game the ground looked completly different.

They would have to have a bloody secure area before I'd consider using it. Far too much bike-nicking nowadays. Armed guards perhaps?

I think that the floodlights were first installed in about 1954 or 1955,Brentford were one of the first lower division clubs in London to have them.If my memory serves me correctly the first game under them was against Chelsea (a friendly match) it was the season Chelsea became Champions.
