Now that was a game!!!! I remember I was at work here in Sydney and running an Australian supporters group called the "Aussie Bees" - See Beesotted issue 5 or 6 for my moment of fame - The article is called "ossie idealists"
Anyway - Because it was such a critical game to continue our run to the top spot heaps of "Aussie Bees" were ringing the club/family etc to get an update and my phone didn't stop for 2 hours! 4-0 before half-time! And to do it against the whites as well!
Ahhh - The good old days!!!!
Don't worry chaps - WE ARE BRENTFORD!!!

Apart from the brilliant game and result, one of my strangest memories of that Sunday morning was seeing ticket touts along Braemar Road: any spares, boys? Target 10,000, where are you?

Definately one of the best games at GP for atmosphere, maybe something to do with playing on a sunday morning.
The team were blinding and even Marcus Gayle played one of his best games.

Remember going spastic in the paddock after the second goal as it was on sixty seconds after the first!
No-one, not even Brazil 1970, would have competed with us in the first half that day. :sorted:

Was that game the same season Blissett got sent off at their place?
I was too young at the time, and didn't go. Wish i could have experienced the atmosphere though, sounds like it was great!

Don't think so
We won 1-0 at The Cottage with a Terry Evans header and Benstead saved a penalty.
Went top of the table for the first time.

I sat in the Fulham end that day. Brook Rd stand. When the 1st goal went in myself and one other person jumped up. We looked at each other, looked around and very quickly sat down.

the first time, i believe, that we had every done a league double over Fulham. A Sunday game - Saint & Greavsie had congratulated Birmingham on "their" title on their saturday show the day before (little did they know - I was spitting furious at that!!!) - massive crowd. In the braemar (towards Brook Rd) in line with the penalty box - still remember Smillie charging down the right wing with Gayle pointing where he wanted the ball (edge of 6 yard box), Smillie obliging and Marcus smashing it into the roof of the net. Getting shivers just typing this. the best game for me ever as a Bee - even better than being at Peterborough the week after I think!

I love the Gary Blissett goal in that game. Vintage Blissett. Cant agree that it was better than Peterbourough though. That whole day (and night even though I was only 14) was amazing. Every time I think about those games I cant help but smile. :)

Why???
Remember it well, my duaghter (first child) was due the next day (she arrived the Tuesday), classic however made it even tougher that I couldnt get to Peterboro as brought Sophie out of hospital that day.
