Bees Move Closer to New Ground

In the second piece of significant news in a fortnight , Brentford have announced that Matthew Benham has purchased the 7.6 acre Lionel Road site from Barratt Homes for an undisclosed fee.

The Bees have confirmed it is their intention to submit a planning application to Hounslow Council within the next twelve months for a new 15,000 capacity stadium with a view to moving into their new home in time for the start of the 2016-17 Season. The Bees have also confirmed that there will be an option to expand the capacity of the new ground to 20,000 at a later date.

The news represents a huge boost to the future of the scheme which appeared to have suffered a major setback in January 2011 when it was announced that Barratt, who had purchased the site in 2007 and agreed a partnership with Bees United to construct a new stadium on the site, were pulling out of the deal following their earlier decision to cease work on the scheme in June 2010.
