I've obviously calmed down now, and underneath it all know it was wrong but in the emotion of a live game the number of misses down to him ment I temporarily 'lost it' in the words of Mr Doovster.

I haven't really taken to him since he 'stole' the ball to take that penalty in the Yeovil game because he didn't trust anyone else...and promptly missed. Since then he has played well but only in patches presumably because of his lack of fitness.

However, CD doesn't get the same amount of stick because of all the hard work he does. How he scored 28 for Crewe in 1 season I still don't understand.

PH is an experienced player and I will be a good boy on Saturday provided he shows a determination to do well for us. If he plays in the more advanced role then I expect to see that he's actually trying to banish all thoughts of Tuesday's inadequate display.
    Excellent post IMO

I didn't boo the other day but did cheer when I saw Spencer coming on. Can someone advise if there is a designated Pikey section and what is the criteria to join?

That's fair enough, we needed a change of fresh legs as Hayes was looking tired.
The way I saw it on Tuesday, he got into some good positions and should (and he knows this as much anyone) put one or two of those away. However, I think his all round game is pretty good and with Clayton, we have a very intelligent and tricky front pairing for the opposition to play against. We are creating a lot of chances which under Scott was an alien concept. Or as LP Hartley wrote "The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there"

Hayes got into great positions but his finishing was woeful, he just looks like someone trying too hard once in front of goal. To be fair I think the only sitter was the downward header in the first half, the others were chances that an in form confident striker would have converted but he's neither at the moment. He needs time on the pitch to get his form back so happy for him to get another chance against the Monkeyhangers but if not he should be loaned out until he gets fully fit and his form back.
I do think he'll come good but we need forwards playing as well as the rest of the team now not down the line so he needs to come good very quickly please God.

In the second half, it looked to me that the one he put over was not as easy as it looked - it came more or less straight at him, and he couldn't direct it downwards.
Have a look at the highlights on the Sky Sports website and see if you still think this.

Yes, the booing and cheering when he came off was out of order. Yes, he has shown a few signs that he could be useful player, and yes, I hope he comes good.

But let's not try and sugar coat it. He had a poor, poor game and they were poor misses. Quite frankly he shouldn't be in the team on Saturday but Uwe is stubborn and is clearly trying to send a message to the fans. And the comparisons with Donaldson are ridiculous. Clayton brings so much more to the team, yet the benefits of having Hayes start are, at the moment, minimal.

I think Hayes scored a couple v Pool when on loan for Wycombe last season in a 5-0 win so maybe UR is playing the odds tomorrow by starting Hayes.

Hope he finally comes good but ...

I think there's an important issue here and IMO the reception given to Hayes has backed Uwe into a corner. I think he has to back Hayes by starting him otherwise it looks like the crowd [ or a section of it] is calling the shots and that can't happen. If Hayes doesn't produce, I'm sure Uwe will hook him and Spencer will come on. Spencer undoubtedly gave us mobility and was in the danger zone.

I don't buy fans have backed him into a corner. He just needs to pick his best team. He sees them in training so should know who that'll be. If he picks Hayes then I expect him to score. If he picks Spencer I expect him to score. He just needs to pick the right one. Simples.

I think there's a man management challenge here though don't you? Hayes is a big investment and Spencer an unknown at this level. I'm as frustrated as anyone with the finishing on Tuesday but let's see what happens. If it were me I'd start with Hayes but if it ain't happening sub him at 60 mins..

Tbh I'd start with him too but I mean fans reactions should not enter Uwe's head.

Bottom of the league without a manager from ****ing miles away at home should be a piss easy game to score in. Both Hayes and Clayton should be looking forward to getting among the goals tomorrow. Then confidence should build and we crack on...

If he struggles against Hartlepool then that's a real problem. You wouldn't tell him this til after though.

First goalscorer tomorrow followed by cupping of his ears to New Road.

    God I hope so.

I Wasn't sure about Carl Cort, he started slowly and missed some sitters. But when he finally broke his duck I thought: he has enough of something about him to make his place worthwhile. Same with Alexander. I think Hayes has shown some skill, and will put it right.

Same as many goal scorers when you think of it.

The likes of Deano and Bobby T all took their time to really get going.
