I think there will certain games when Legge will be vital, particularly those teams who play a big lump up front. UR has I believe experimented with 3-5-2 in pre season which suggests that all three may play in some games.

Some harsh comments about Leon above, I feel he has been superb for us since he signed, his passing may be limited but there is no better header of a ball at this level and his basic defensive skills are very sound.

Agree, the bloke seems to have gone from hero to zero with some. Way I see it is he has progressed from non league to cope at league 1 despite lack of a regular partner or leader alongside. IMHO he has a big part to play this season and while he wouldn't be an automatic start, here are certain games I 'd want him in and also believe he'd walk into more than a few league 1 sides.

I know this is a thread about Tony Craig, but on the topic of Legge, he's also pretty good at scoring last minute winners, and I reckon Uwe might bring him on up front as a last resort as he did at times at the end of last season.

Craig obviously went on the same media coaching course as Gary Alexandra. In his latest interview he began every answer with:
"Yes, no." Maybe it's a Sarfeast London thing.

Personally I think Eger and Pim both had something to offer this season to the squad but those are the decisions which Uwe is paid to make as manager and we'll judge his decisions by results this season. Craig looks steady if unspectacular thus far. Deano has got a lot of potential but it's his first full season and no doubt he's still learning and will have up's and downs. Legge is what Legge is a 110% trier who is strong in the tackle and in the air but positionally and in terms of distribution a little lacking. Like what I've seen of Mawson so far but far too early to expect much this season.

If anyone knows thier football then TC is a positional player, he knows where he should be, look at our 2nd goal yesterday. He cut the ball out, played a simple ball out..bang two passes later the ball was in thier net. Last season the centre halfs were recovering from bad start positions. KO was the worst at this. I suggest you all watch TC this season closely. There will not be too many lungs coz he will read the game. He won't be a hero but take some time to watch him, he will be in the right place most of the time. He's a proper defender.

Alexander i did yes and i still think he is a good player :coughtopscorercough: Happier with CD and FEA though. Your on dangerous ground if you want to start the old posts game :haha:

I didn't say Leon Legge was a better " footballer " i said he was a better defender, which he is. He can tackle , head and score goals,. Pim just looks around wondering why the balls in the net. He has talent but has wasted his second chance Uwe gave him.

Yes i have got myself into unsutainable debt and nearly lost my marriage so i can watch us mess around in div 3 forever

Sorry to hear your troubles mate, I know we like to cross swords on our opinions, but it's all good fun and nothing personal....mind you I'm not sure what you mean "being on dangerous grounds re; old posts "?

Don't quite see how you consider Pim "wasted" the second chance Uwe gave him. He was played out of position as a left back when Uwe had no other choice for a couple of games and then got rid of when the opportunity arose.

Thing is Balders, you're absolutely right, he wasn't given a proper chance by Uwe, just like Grabban who's just been sold for £300,000. There are so many Brentford fans who have seen shite football for years, and as long as the player is a trier that's fine, trouble is the triers haven't got us anywhere. I just hope Herr Rosler is the one to take out of the dark ages and try to emulate all our local rivals who have disappeared into the distance...............

think, like most players, he was signed to play for brentford, position dependent on the needs of the day.

I think centre back in going to be a problem position this year. No pace at all, we are really going to miss Karleigh.

He did OK and won his fair share of headers, the problem both he and Dean had was the complete lack of cover in front of them, they were dragged all over the place. Second half he played the left of three defenders, with Harlee right and Kev in the middle.

..............likes to pass the ball and has a sweet left foot............

This is easy to say after a horror show I know, and I hope he comes good but.............

One of our biggest moans on the GPG is square pegs for round holes. Why have we gone out and paid six figures for a player that has made his name as a left back, and decided we are going to turn him into a full time centre back?! Surely we could have found an actual centre back that was a good leader, and a bit hard in the tackle to play there? Really don't understand it? I had worries during pre season that he looks like a left back playing in the middle! He is slow, not strong in the air, and out muscled on the ground. When we come up against teams with good strikers, I fear he wil look worse! Really want to be wrong about him, as he is a big investment in our season, but as is stands, I'm not impressed with him, or Uwe for deciding that this man will sort the back line!!

The only reason he joined us was Rosler guaranteed him the cb place rather than lb. horror show last night.
