Any idiot can face a crisis. It's the day to day living that wears you down.
Decent performance. We dominated for long spells while Colchester persisted in hoofing it. Thank goodness we don't play like that anymore. We stuck at playing the right way and got our reward. Football turns on goals and you felt that if Donaldson had put in a good chance in the first half, then it would have been comfortable. Forshaw subbed after an outstanding performance as he has an ongoing abdominal problem and we wanted him ready for thursday. Donaldson hooked after missing another golden chance. Harry at last got a chance and made an impact including the cross for the goal. He needs games now to get match fit. Saunders was poor. Overall, we are making progress.![]()
I had a huge bet on us wining today and had to sweat to the end. If we are honest, we were wasteful in front of goal and should have been 2-0 up at half time. The midfield is not working and against a very poor team, we were not good today. Moore, Forshaw and Dean were good. We were lucky to win and we are going to be mid table until we start putting away our chances away- we can't afford ten or fifteen chances and not score. I won't be betting on us again until I see an improvement- not the same standard as against Crewe.
My fiends and I do not believe the diamond formation works and I hope rosler is able to change and play to our strengths. Forshaw is too good for League 1. QED
Pretty good game. We were the better side, but they will probably feel they should / could have got a draw. Apart from a period around the 60 min mark we were on top. I thought Moore and Forshaw did well. Great cross by Forrester for the goal.
It is very jekyll and hyde at the moment. It seems that for every right thing we are doing is being negated by something wrong ie we are creating/getting plenty of chances yet failing to finish them off. Saying that I think we deserved the three points and went to win the game whilst ColU pretty much came for a point and nothing more. The way they play is awful but they were well drilled today and tough to break through.
I think these first set of games has made me realise why we have so many bodies in midfield within the squad. Which is advantageous because as Saunder is yet to get going this season and perhaps needs to be dropped now. Wouldn't be surprised if there is a shuffle of the pack for Thurs. Harry and Adeyemi in perhaps?
Defence was awesome, in particular Logan and Dean, although thought Bidwell had a sub par game. Donaldson I don't know what to say, one game he is unplayable and the next he is a donkey, when he was through on goal I can't believe he messed it up.
Have to praise Uwe for the subs, brought them on nice and early in the second half and when Forrester came on he was excellent.

Thought we played well, diamond formation seemed effective against a solid if dour Colchester , both full backs had great games and we did everything but score a hatful of goals.
The last minute goal was no less than we deserved.
Harry must start next week surely?
We eventually blew the poorly constructed Colchester house down but gosh did we huff and puff to do so!
The first half was very frustrating from a supporters point of view. At one end, Donaldson and Diaouraga fluffed golden oppourtunities after great build up play. At the other end, we were almost guilty of gifting Colchester presents after uneccessary backpasses by Douglas and Diaouraga, and poor positional play by Craig. Moore's fantastic reading of the game bailed us out on each of these occassions. Apart from that, we looked a better footballing side than Colchester.
Our tempo improved second half, but we were still huffing, puffing and fluffing in front of goal, Donaldson with the most guilt edged one on one. The ref didn't help us either with two debatable penalty appeals turned down. The ultimate difference between today being a win or a draw was Farid being in the right place at the right time to pop it in. That is why Uwe signed him and he may win us those 5-10 extra points from doing that that we failed to assertain last season. Colchester, apart from a couple of promising five minute spells, got even poorer second half, and based on todays performance, will be closer to the bottom of the table than the top.
Moore-9: MOTM. His reading of the game was superb. Had to deal with a couple of horrendous backpasses, and great closing down of the angle and save from two one on one opportunities for them.
Logan-7: Had a solid defensive performance and was industrious in attack
Dean-6: Was imperious in the first half, had a quieter second half but always looked in command
Craig-5: Is starting to worry me. Plays a bit like Marcel Eger but slower with poorer positional sense. Was bailed out by Dean and Moore in the first half.
Bidwell-7: Teamates were always looking for him. A great reader of the game with a great touch and good passes and crosses, every game he plays in a bees shirt is a bonus for the club.
Douglas-5: Poor first half littered with loose balls, the most costly potentially being his passback which was snuffed out by Moore just in time. Improved in the second half.
Diagouraga-6: Also hit a poor backpass and a poor miss, apart from that, worked very hard and always looked to get on the ball and make things happen.
Forshaw-7: Very tidy football throughout the game. Was surprised to see him subbed as he was our best player in the diamond. Precautionary for thursday I guess.
Saunders-5: Was a ghost for much of the game, His deliberate trip for which he earned his yellow card opitomised the frustration he must be going through at the moment.
Donaldson-5: All credit to him for always getting in the right positions, but really does need to possess a clearer head when given time in front of goal.
El Alagui - 7: His workrate is a managers dream. His passing and crossing even seems to be improving, but what we are really concerned about is that he is in the right place at the right time to stick it in, like he did today
Subs:
Forrester - 7: Impressive. Was very energetic when he came on and great assist. Playing better than Saunders at the moment.
Hayes - 6: Some good touches, will improve as he settles in to the club
Adeyemi - 6: Same as applies to Hayes
We did it the hard way, but an enjoyable 3 points gained in the Griffin Park sun.![]()

Thoroughly enjoyable game and would have been a travesty had we not won.
Really good to see the nucleus of the side comfortable in possession and capable of passing the ball to feet.
Thought Logan was outstanding today, Harlee faultless, Craig solid and Jake after a wobbly few minutes in the first half improved greatly second half.
Midfield while loaded with ability still isn't as balanced as it might be, Forshaw was outstanding and while he did a great job linking up on the right with Shay I still think he might end up in the middle.
Sadly Sam was off colour today and Harry given sufficient time to make an impact and he looked confident, classy and delivered a brilliant cross for Farid to notch.
CD was wasteful again, three golden chances but Farid and Dave also missed when it looked easier to score. In his defence his pace created two chances and he also played Dave in with a great slide rule pass across the box
for the first of many chances.
Hayes looked like a footballer when he came on, suspect he's still a bit rusty and lacking match fitness but seen enough to suggest he will start more games then he doesn't.
All in all 3 points and we need to keep the run going in East London that we'll do if we start converting more of the dozens of chances we're creating.
I don't really know what more some people expect to be honest.
We totally dominated a poor side and with better finishing would have won about 8 nil. The opposition are always going to get a few chances, and our players will always make a few mistakes. That is why they are league 1 players currently.
The football we are playing is great to watch. A few seasons ago we would have been colchester- lumping the ball upfield for somebody like Sears to chase.
I for one thoroughly enjoyed the game. We will be challenging this season.

I do think Uwe has been getting the substitutions rit recently. Correct players coming on at correct times. Would deffo luke to now see Harry start instead of Sam.

Well I'm sure the Donaldson Appreciation Society (assuming they are not too embarrassed) will be on here shortly defending yet another poor finishing performance and no doubt will find some redeeming features in his performance in a game we managed to win in spite of him not because of him.
I'm sorry but a striker that works hard but has very little in the way of finishing ability isn't what we need to get us out of this division. "but he's the leading goalscorer blah blah blah" . "ESPN stats say he's converted a bigger percentage of chances than Robin van Persie, blah blah blah". His succession of easy misses just puts pressure on the rest of the team as far as I am concerned. His ability in front of goal or lack of it was encapsulated in todays game. It looks as though Uwe is finally cottoning on.
I know full well that Farid also was guilty of missing chances today (as was Dave) but I have seen enough so far to convince me that of the two, Farid is the one more likely to put the ball in the onion bag on a regular basis. Jury is still out for me on Hayes as we haven't seen much of him.
As to the rest, good performances from the defence (although Craig does still worry me at times), thought both Full Backs had good games today and Logan and Adeyimi seemed to have the makings of a good partnership. I thought Adeyimi looked like he had something about him when he came on as did Forrester who did well and provided an inch perfect cross for the eventual winner. Saunders through yet another ineffective match has surely played himself out of the starting line up. I'm not sure what the problem is with him this year, whether it is the formation or he is just out of sorts but he has contributed absolutely nothing this season so far.
Douglas again flattered to deceive in my opinion and although Forshaw looks a far better technical player than Douglas I can't put my finger on what it is about Forshaw's game that makes him look good but in an ineffective way and I think Douglas perhaps has more chance of changing a game.
I would start the next couple of games with the team that finished today but we know that aint gunna happen .
MOM Bidwell for me, good to have him back.
Not in the inner circle so can only give opinion not fact.

Forgot to mention Dave as well, thought he was excellent today, switched the balls to the wings well and was decent offensively. Got stuck in a bit as well.
Donaldson really should have taken at least one of his chances today, but at least he's creating them for himself and for others. Contrast and compare our front three to Colchester's (Wordsworth, Henderson and Sears) and we created a decent few for ours whereas they struggle to break us down - although two very good saves from Moore kept us in it.
Defensively we were good. Dean is a cracking all-round footballer, and I personally think we've got one of the best right backs in the league if Logan carries on playing as he did today. Bidwell slotted right back into the team, and it's going to be difficult to for Barron to get a look in.
Forshaw was wonderful again, Douglas was OK, Toumani was decent and worked hard. Saunders had another frustrating game. You can tell he's determined and motivated, but not much has gone right for him so far this season - sometimes happens unfortunately.
I felt Farid was quite anonymous at times and was surprised Uwe hauled off Donaldson instead of El Alagui.
Uwe seems to be getting his substitutions spot on. 0-0 with a boring game going nowhere, he made three early substitutions and we got the goal. Much more decisive than our opposition's management team. Forrester seemed to take a bit to settle, but a rasping shot just flying wide was followed up with a cracking cross ten minutes later and Farid did what's going to net him 10+ goals this season. Adeyemi looked composed and decisive on the ball. I now have no concern about our midfield to be honest - although would be interesting to see how a plan B with us chasing the game might be implemented.
Colchester aren't a bad team, but they're not good either. They had a wasting game plan, which was doing the trick (initially surviving on some dodgy finishing from us) and I thought their two centre backs weren't going to give much away. Glad we scored (obvious thing to say) because I felt it was a largely flat and pretty boring game, but seeing as it wasn't too dissimilar to the away fixture at their place last season, I'm boosted by the fact that it was us that stole the win this time around.
Agree with all the positive stuff. Would have been a real b***er if we had not won. Yes, chances missed and on another day this would have been 4+ Nil.
For me Forrester/ Forshaw / Bidwell absolutely key to us being challengers at end of season. That is NOT demeaning Logan/Dean/Faraj who are hard working and effective.
I am a huge Clayton fan - simply because he works SO hard and terrorises defences - yes he will miss chances but as many posts rightly say - and IMO - we are a weaker side when he is not there.
Strange sub of Forshaw - who was - again IMO -MoM - but how refreshing it is to be in the position of having so many options in so many positions.
Surprised not to see mention of two superb saves by Moore, who looks better each game. Without those we could have -unbelievably - lost today - in true 'old Bees' style!
Marcus looked much the same - bless him!- lots of hard work!
Can only see us getting progressively better - Saunders/ Barron???? Difficult to see them pushing Forrester/Bidwell out?
Whatever, it is going to be an interesting season - COME ON YOU BEES!!!!!!!!!

I thought it was alright today, the frustration of a bad journey down and the thought of drawing made the last 20 minutes a difficult watch. Great cross, good header and we have got 3 points from a game that was yawning into a draw, maybe I'm wrong but today's opponents were brittle and there to be dealt with, we made hard work of it.
Vote BLUNSTONE - maybe out of touch but closer than what we already have.
Why is CD always singled out. The first chance he had was a very difficult chance, tight angle, left foot, goaly right on top of him, OK did not expect it to go in the top tier but had he scored it would have been a great finish. He created the one on one through his own persistence but took it too wide and never got the shot in, not great. Having said that Farid's 1 on 1 was worse as he was totally in the clear from 30 yards out and he also missed two completely free headers inside the six yard box that I would have scored. Toumani set the scene with a shocking miss from (I have to say it) an excellent inch perfect pass from CD, he either sidefoots it home or he tries to control it with his left foot and goes far too wide to get a shot in, so he chooses the latter. Why only pick on CD and let the others off?
Colchester will surely be the worst team we will see at GP this year, absolutely woeful. Hoofed the ball up all day to a midget who was not interested in jumping. We gifted them one or two chances they should have scored and with the raft of chances we squandered it should have had all the markings of a typical 0.1 smash and grab written all over it but they were sooooooooooo fk useless they couldn't do it.
To the bloke behind me today...... if you honestly think we should get "beano" back you are on drugs mate, he was poo.

Decent performance and if we had of scored in the first half we would have been talking about a four nil victory tonight... Not fussed about Claytons misses as we won the game so in hindsight him missing didn't really matter. Bidwell ran himself into the ground hence the reason for a few lapses of concentration in the last 15 minutes by him. My main concern is Moore's lack of ablity to claim a cross he seems disconnected from the defence a case in point was when Craig needlessly huffed the ball into touch in the first half from the penalty spot when he had time to control and clear properly but Moore failed to inform him. Dont like the fact that he fails to calm the defence by coming out to punch or catch. Lee is a better around keeper and gives me more confidence than Moore who is merely a shot stopper
