Bees v Oldham Match Reports & Reaction

Looks like I am the first one back! Well done SUPER BEES. I thought the first 20 they were the better team but after that it was all Brentford and pretty comfortable. However last 10 minutes were too hairy for my liking. Keeping pace with the main contenders like this and the confidence will grow and the results will continue to flow.

Very tough match next week so a point would be nice.

    COYR!!

Sat back way too much final 10 mins. donaldson denied by a great defensive block in second half, perhaps unlucky to be subbed after that as farid was starting to tire out. fredericks looked good when he came on. We done enough to get the win but it wasnt the best performance. Moore made a couple of great saves. Craig played his best game for us. assume forshaw picked up a knock hence being subbed.

Fairly even first half but we dominated the 2nd and should have scored a couple including a great defensive block from Claytons shot. The subs put us on the back foot but Fredericks was impressive when he came on and he should have been left up when they were bombarding our goal in the last 10 minutes as an outlet as his pace was scaring them.

A wins a win though, bit surprised Douglas got motm as I thought Harry was far and away our best player.

A good win but it should never have got so close. We had enough chances to win it by three or four but couldn't get that elusive second goal to put the game to bed. I wasn't impressed with Rosler's substitutions I thought it was a negative move and invited pressure at a time where we were on top. Clayton was a threat all game but his finishing at times was too predictable and in the second half was denied a goal by an incredible block. Forrester was a huge threat from the left, some great skills and a lovely pass for Clayton who set up Forshaw to slide in a lovely finish for the goal. Forshaw is a class act, keeps the ball, has quick feet and a great footballing brain for for some reason seems to be the one who is always taken off? Fredericks looks very exciting and definitely seems a more attacking option than a right back. He played on the right of a five man midfield and was a constant threat showing good pace and trickery. We'll play worse and win by three or four on another day. Forrester man of the match for me but Moore, Douglas and Forshaw were all excellent.

Forshaw is playing with an abdominal injury and can't last all game.
After all is said and done, far more is said than is done.

There were so many positives from today which is quite strange given that we only won 1 nil.
Moore was fantastic between the sticks.
Tony Craig IMHO had by far and away his best game for us, assured at the back and a threat via set pieces.
Adeyemi was very good in the middle of the park.
Douglas had one of his proper "roll his sleeves up" games
Forrester looked like he would make something happen as soon as he had the ball. At times made their full back look like a clown.
Forshaw got his first goal for the club.
Fredericks had something about him when he came on.
But for me, best of all was when Oldham were losing their heads a little in the second half and we looked very composed and mature. We didn't let their bully boy stuff get to us.
It may only have been 1 nil today but for some very peculiar reason I think this could be the start of something really good.

A game that was probably a microcosm of our season so far...first 10 mins we started slowly gave Oldham too much of the ball but then got a decent goal after good work by Harry and Farid coolly slotted home by the impressive Forshaw. We then missed some decent chances (headers by Harlee & Clayton from corners and the usual clayton passback when in on goal)...Oldham had decent possession but threatened less, second half and we really got into our stride Harry looked really sharp and chances to finish the game off came and went regularly. The best falling to Clayton who this time did everything right cutting in from wide creating space for himself and only a brilliant block deflecting just over when a goal seemed inevitable.
That all important second just wouldn't come and inevitably Oldham stepped things up in the final 10 mins putting on 2 fowards and lumping it long cue rerun of siege of the Alamo as our goal led a slightly charmed life and Moore made a couple of great saves.
A game that we should have won easily we ended up clinging on for grim death , still not sure if we can make the 'breakthrough' that we all want and go on a run of 3/4 wins on the trot with goals coming easily , plenty of good performances today , Harry was repaying the faith most have in him today , Forshaw looked good Adeyemi looks the part as well but the sum total of the parts is still less than the quality individuals we have , but one this is for sure this team has potential if those parts can be put together successfully.

These days I don't begrudge the admission price as the way we try to play is actually entertaining, with a solid backline too.
If we can get a couple of early goals we'll absolutely smash someone soon.
Ah that'll be a case of Chronic Recurring PlayOff Failure for which there is no known cure.

Oldham didn't sit back and probably edged the first 15minutes without creating much.
Forshaws goal was well taken, into the corner after a good pass from Farid.
Felt good to go one nil up after a very even 15minutes. Was vital we scored first as well.
Pretty much were in control from them on apart from a very nervy final 10minutes, could just sense a goal for Oldham, who hoofed the ball long and were wasteful in the final third.

First half we played some great football. Good tempo to the passing and some great cossfield balls and through balls. Forshaw was quality on the ball and linked up well with Logan who got forward really well. Suprised to see Forshaw and Logan subbed thought both were very good. resting them for Saturday?

Moore, Forrester, Fredericks, Forshaw, Dean & Logan had really good games.

Moore made two great saves again, also another clean sheet.

Harry has great pace and skill looks a constant threat, some class crosses put in.

Fredericks also has got some skill and pace and looks promising.

Forshaw was quality on the ball, distributed the ball well and scored his first for the bees.

Dean was rock solid at the back again.

Logan got forward well and put in some great crosses.

Clayton worked hard and was unlucky to score in the second half, great block by the Oldham defender.
Was suprised he was taken off as Farid who also had a good game and worked hard looked nackered in the last 15minutes. Good turn and shot by Farid on his left in the first half was unlucky not to score.

Second half again some great passing but also we had a good tempo to it. Also we pressed them very well, apart from the final 10-15minutes which was very nervy.

Very good team performance and fully deserved the three points. Will be a tough one next Saturday at Tranmere but confident we can be the first to beat them this season COYR

I thought it was poor today. We were iffy in the first half but it began to fall apart in the second particularly late on where we abandoned our footballing principles and came under the cosh as a result. Despite this, there were rays of sunshine
    Harry
We won ugly [ I wondered if we could]
Fredericks [ he can be a match winner for us and an alternative to Donaldson up front IMO.]. The management need to accommodate him either wide mid or up front.

I enjoyed the first 70 minutes bar the first 10 or so but why did we sit so deep and invite them on, tactical masterpieice or a bag of bolloxs, you decide?

Entertaining game with a scoreline that flattered Oldham given the way we dominated but they probably felt they deserved something after Moores world class save late on.

Started a bit too slow and that has for me been far too common this season. At home, we should get at teams early and set the tempo, however we slowly gathered momentum and still had enough possession and chances to win comfortably.

Balance in midfield looked much better today and Adeyemi did a really good job at breaking things up and getting up and down the field which allowed Douglas to play.
Forshaw and Harry are class players at this level and if we don't get up this season we'll struggle to keep them but they'll earn us money as will the pearl that is Dean.

Clayton led the line well and Farid showed why he isn't starting every game as he isn't up to two games a week yet. All in all good three points without really clicking and can see someone getting a hiding when we do.

Can confirm that in the two visits as Oldham boss, Dickhead is probably the most annoying oppo boss I've seen. He's like an untrained Jack Russell, constantly over excited, yapping non stop and irritating. Although the officials were poor, felt sorry for the 4th official as Dickov spent 90 minutes questioning every decision and even the injury time.

Good post IMO. Biggest mistake I thought was taking Donaldson off, Farid isn't good at playing the lone striker role. Had Oldham nicked an equaliser 'The UW debate' thread would have gone into meltdown. That said I thought it was an enjoyable game.

Have to say I thought the ref was poor. Two of many strange decisions were when Farid was kicked on the back of the leg and not only did the ref not give a foul, he let the game go on with Farid laying there in agony. The other one was about 5 mins from the end when two of our midfielders tackled their guy, the whole crowd groaned when he blew for a foul only to be totally confused when the free kick was given to us!

Apart from 10-15 minutes at the start and at the end of the game we were the better team. Especially good performances from Moore, Logan, Craig, Forhsaw and Forrester. Today we saw the '100% no nonsense TC' had had been advertised to us by Milwall, by far his best performance in a bees shirt.

The substitutions in general were negative, but Fredericks played like a more roar and weak looking version of Aaron Lennon in his half an hour cameo. Would really like to see us play a 4-4-2 with Forrester and Fredericks on either wing against Tranmere.

Some of our players played at a higher standard than others today, but all worked their socks off and deserved the points and a nice rest for the rest of the weekend. Special credit to the usual suspects Moore, Legge, Dean, Bidwell, Farid, Forrester and susbstitututed Forshaw for showing their prolonged appreciation to the fans at the end. Looking forward to the next fortnight of bees games.

Uwe said, post match, that Douglas and Moore went to hospital for check-ups. The Moore one was when he got clattered at one "Alamo" corner but it also explain why Douglas was replaced by Dave. Leon was brought on to counter them going very direct.

Like others have reported, Oldham started with tempo and we struggled to keep up but gradually got into it, resulting in a good cross into the box, an El Alagui knockdown and a sharp, no-nonsense shot from Forshaw... 1-0. We took more control after that and should have got another with some just off target headers from corners and Clayton's wussy shots. We can't go on wasting chances.

At only 1 up it was always going to be a kitchen sink job in the last 10 minutes and so it turned out to be. A good lot of corner practice and a good work-out for the zonal marking. Fredericks looked very sprightly and provided that turn of speed to relieve a bit of pressure; I hope we see more of him. Tranmere will be a real test.

Enjoyed the game, thought we played some fairly decent stuff for much of the game and the introduction of Adeyimi and Forrester into the starting 11 improved it. I didn't agree with Douglas being MOM but he was considerably more influential than he was on Tuesday. Still unconvinced by him though. Forshaw had a good game and the full backs both linked up well with the wider pair in the diamond for a change.

Defence solid, agree Craig had a better game than of late and Fredericks had a decent cameo when he came on.

Up front, problems persist. Farid won everything in the air but the partnership didn't work well again. Clayton did a lot of good work but as usual wasted the chances that came along at important times. I think the one in the 2nd half when he cut inside and his goalbound shot took a deflection was unlucky but 2/3 others in the first half were just poor finishing. Its a conundrum but on balance I think we would be better with someone who can finish better even if they don't do as much work.

It is debilitating to the team to see chances wasted week after week and we were lucky to hang on for the win in a game we mainly dominated.

    Welcome 3 points though

[QUOTE=jlove;2005209] Douglas was replaced by Dave.

    /QUOTE]

I thought Douglas played 90 minutes as the subs were Dave for Forshaw, Fredericks for Donaldson and Legge for Logan.

Pleased about the win and the points but how much longer can we squander so many of the chances we are making?
A couple of post match comments from Uwe to ponder upon:-
We started too slow (one of his regular comments) my response is that the manager is responsible for how his team starts and he must get the players to the starting blocks in the right frame of mind to set off at a sharp tempo
We were under the cosh in the final ten minutes (a regular occurance) The manager has consistently rejected the idea of a lone outlet player (1) to keep more of the opposition from the attack and (2) to give the possibility of a quick counter attack to relieve pressure. Our setup is inviting the onslought we regularly receive - we all see it, why can't he?

Liked the look of Fredericks when he came on, very quick and a decent cross on him. Forrester is a star, has great skill, and is not afraid to have a shot which is good. Put in some good balls into the box that our strikers should of done better to get to.

I thought we were too negative in the last twenty and leaving Farid up as the loan striker was a mistake as he was effectively a spent force by then.

To my mind, the teams who've been promoted from this division in recent years haven't been afraid to continue playing their way and taking the game to the opposition as a way of closing out games. Today's Alamo last twenty minutes was IMO a sign by Uwe of nervousness, and perhaps a lack of confidence in our ability to keep trying to stamp our style of play on the game whilst ensuring we came away with all three points.

It's almost like an inferiority complex and I'd like to see Uwe have a bit more confidence and faith in the team's ability to close out games without the Martin Allen-esque tactic of shutting up shop and encouraging the opposition to set up camp in our half.

I think we're good enough to win these games playing "our" way for the full 90 and I'd like to see Uwe be brave enough to think that too.

i didnt think we played particularly well today tbh and oldham could easily have scored during last 10. Why we don't leave one player up at opposition corners i don't know..how do expect to relieve the pressure otherwise? Forrester getting better and better...hope he's on a long contract...?

Spot on- our two forwards were poor today, Donaldson misses most of his chances and I have no confidence in him. What are the back room staff doing during the week with Donaldson? It is plain to see that he needs to be taught and be drilled during the week to be composed and stop rushing his chances
