James Spencer signs on Loan from Huddersfield Town

    http://www.brentfordfc.co.uk/news/ar...ns-428221.aspx

Brentford Football Club are set to complete the loan signing of James Spencer from Huddersfield Town.

Subject to the completion of formalities, the 20-year-old striker will join The Bees on an initial one-month loan deal.

The striker, known as Jimmy, came through the ranks at Huddersfield and turned professional in the summer of 2010.

He spent the past two seasons on loan at Morecambe and Cheltenham Town before breaking in to the First Team picture at Huddersfield this season, making appearances in the Capital One Cup and the Championship.

Mark Warburton, Brentford FC Sporting Director, said: “Jimmy is a talented young player.

“He has performed well and scored goals in League Two and is producing impressive performances at Development Squad level.

“We had to fight off stiff competition from other League One clubs to get him to Griffin Park.

“Everyone is looking forward to working with Jimmy and seeing him in a Brentford shirt.”

Jimmy started 20 League Two games for Morecambe during the 2010/11 season and scored eight goals for the Lancashire side.

Last season he was part of the Cheltenham team which reached the League Two Play-Off Final and started 27 games league games, scoring ten goals.

Jimmy will remain at Griffin Park initially until November 21.

Worth a gamble. See how he does in his initial month loan period. I hope we don't put too much pressure on the lad, especially when our own recognised experienced strikers have failed to deliver.

Based on the stats provided one goal every two and a bit games

    Welcome aboard James

Hopefully he has learnt from the Jordan Rhodes school of forward play rather than the Alan Lee version

Better a youngun than a has been I suppose. Good luck to the lad.
Can't help but think our striker dilemma remains unresolved.
The legacy of UR's reign is the inability to find a goalscorer and that will cost us promotion I'm afraid.

Welcome Jimmy. Enjoy your stay, i hope it's successful and bang in some goals. You sound the sort of striker we need. Be prepared though to be abused and be told what a useless signing you are, probably before you've kicked a ball.

According to his wikipedia page, he must have had quite a few substitute appearances where he didn't score, since his overall average is more like one goal every 4+ games. Having said that, if a lot of his appearances were as a sub, that's not really a fair average to take as he may have only been on the pitch for a few minutes in some of those games. His overall ratio per full game is probably more like 1 goal every 3 to 3.5 games. Hopefully he can improve on that whilst with us!

Not a bad a record at all considering how little he's been in the professional game, Huddersfield got Beckford in and we get this guy. Reckon we'll see him next Tuesday against Coventry.

I count 41 games in League 2, not 27. I see 4 games for Sheff Wed dev squad but haven't been able to work out if he's scored for them. On the face of it, he looks a 1 in 4 man to date so a gamble you might say. Serious question - why do we not sign players from the South?
