Match Report - Colchester v Scunthorpe

By coincidence I was passing Colchester on the A.12 at 7.00pm last nite so thought I would take in the game.

Layer Road - Ryman Premier teams will have better grounds
Crowd - Probably about 5000 so almost full
Singing - Good effort from 2 sides of the ground
Food - Balti Pie - Frozen in the middle - Returned for a Steak
    and Spud - Excellent

Colchester played very good football, kept it on the ground and they have a tall/strong center back that takes care of everything and Ganns has every trick in the book. They get the ball out wide quickly and have 2 lively players that get plenty of crosses in.

Scunthorpe had to work very hard throughout the game. Their 19 (Blond forward) is lightning quick but Colchester played him very well with the Colchester back 4 taking it it turns to pick him up as he played across the pitch. Scunthorpe 7 was a small but very clever player - They sorted him out by kicking him about 10ft in the air after 20 minutes or so.

Scunthorpe 24 (Sharp) was taken out of the game by the Colchester crowd continually singing "Rent Boy" to him - He reacted to it after a while and then just disapearred from the game. (As did their right winger Taylor)

Colchester keeper made a great save with about 10 minutes to go but a score of 1-1 would not have been justified. Good scenes at the end of game with We are Top of the Leauge ringing out for some time.

Colchester have the loudest/clearest PA system I have ever heard.
    Pitch was in superb condition

I stood in the away end with the Scunny lot - They were somewhat confused that a Brentford supporter was in with them but I had a great time.

Final score of 1-0 surprised me after the way Colchester played but all credit ot Scunthorpe as they ran their legs off.
