It is with sadness that the GPG has learnt that Bill Axbey, Brentford's oldest supporter, has died at the age of 102 - seven weeks short of his 103rd birthday. The club announced that he passed away yesterday (Friday) after a short illness.
Mr Axbey, a life-long fan, ran out as a mascot at Griffin Park at the ripe old age of 95 and appeared recently on Football Focus where a feature was made of the fact that he was older than Griffin Park itself. More than this though, Mr Axbey will be remembered for his undaunting support of Brentford Football Club and was a permanent fixture for every home game right up to his recent illness.
On behalf of all at the Griffin Park Grapevine we offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends. As you may know, there will be minute’s applause at today’s game in remembrance of Alan Ball – please find a moment to remember Bill as well.
Share your condolences
here please. For those who may missed the Football focus feature, this can be viewed via the BBC
