    Question Johnstone's Paint Trophy

I think it is a great shame that this competition kicks off so early in the autumn.

The old Freight Rover started far later in the football season.

The original idea was for smaller clubs to have a competition later in the season when most had been knocked-out of the two major cups.

Some teams (hopefully not us!) can be out of two of the three cups with the season less than a month old and before they have sorted out their best XI.

Or am I missing the point. What do you think?

Why do we need to see Owusu ?? To give him a big cheer when he enters the pitch, then slag him off for scoring the winning goal !!

    I think you're right actually

The competition as it was originally devised presented problems for successful teams and fixture congestion was silly but I don't see why it needs to start this early.

There are plenty of free dates later in the season and although you don't want it to start too late as the potential for games to come on top of each other comes into play having it in the fourth week of the season is silly IMHO.

You have a situation where Northampton and Hartlepool are out of this competition and still in the League Cup, which is very bizarre.

i think you are wrong mate....

we are in the WEST version of the southern section for rounds 1 & 2, therefore we will be drawn against shrewsbury, bournemouth or swindon.

all very odd - hereford in the EAST bit of the south!

i might be entirely wrong, but i doubt it.

The situation is little confusing because of the byes

Looking here the byes were drawn after the south section was split east and west.

The east and west sections apply to the first two rounds so we will be in a hat with Walsall, Hereford, Wycombe, Cheltenham, Shrewsbury, Bournemouth and Swindon.

Let's pray for a home draw.

MK Dons earned around £250,000 in their run to the final from gate reciepts alone last year.

If you think we can afford not to try for that sort of money

Sorry folks but I can't get excited with this competition. However, with a strong squad I suppose it gives an opportunity to optimise our match fitness. I won't be there tuesday. I'd rather watch the Johnson's paint dry.

When I first read that I thought it was going to say you were purchasing it to paint the back of the home kit the normal colours.

I like the JPT though, it gives us cheap games of football and sometimes TV revenue. If you don't get to the semi's most of the games before that become fairly meaningless but it gives the opportunity and hope of playing at Wembley if you get past a couple of rounds.
