    Sam Saunders

    Where is Sam Saunders?
I was very impressed with him at the start of the season but he has seemed to have disappeared.
Is he injured or just out of favour?
Perhaps he's another Poole who blows hot and cold.
I couldn't find a thread on him so apologies if there is one somewhere.

He was suffering from illness i believe. Not sure if he is available for selection, but he is well behind Bostock and Taylor on the right wing anyway at the moment.

Have to agree with the above. It is an indication of the strength of our squad that a player that many of us (including me) were lauding as perhaps the best player in League 2 appears to have found the step up a real challenge. I hope he recaptures his early season form soon.

I can see a month loan coming for Sam! Hopefully he'll come back after finding his confidence !

I still believe Bostock should be filling a more central role in midfield and Saunders is then battling against Taylor for the wide right birth in a more 4-3-3 system that I woudl like to see tried out.

That might be in order whilst we have Bostock. However, a loan back to League 2 would be a backwards step for SS imo, which if I was him I wouldn't be keen on making. I doubt AS would loan him to another league 1 team, so it's a difficult one.

Who would you drop though Kev or Marcus?.I guess it would weaken the defensive nature of our current midfield but it may not be a concern as we'd always be attacking!

I would have Sam ahead of Clevand any day. While Sam has blown hot and cold, Clevland has blown cold in every game i've seen him play.

    Actually I'd rest Charlie!!

Play O'Connor holding with Bean & Bostock further forward with a more mobile centre forward in Strevens upfront and Saunders/Taylor on RW and Weston on LW. It is flexible in that it can move from 4-3-3 to 4-5-1 to 4-4-2 at anytime without losing any balance.

Peter Taylor was keen to sign Saunders for Wycombe in the summer ... it will be interesting to see if Taylor gets another job soon, whether he renews his interest!

I'd be very sorry to see Sam go anywhere, even on loan. Don't see that he's done much wrong tbh, I think he's one of the best FOOTBALLERS at the club. I think he just needs a goal.

Although they are different players, I prefer him to Cleveland all day long. If you take Bostock out of the right midfield equation, I would start games with Sam & possibly use Cleveland as an impact sub with say 20 mins to go.

Cant see him going out on loan especially if Weston is out for a while.

If Weston is out it would leave us Taylor, Bostock (currently here for a month) Saunders and Wood (whom many have said is struggling with form this season)

Isn't everyone getting a bit previous? I thought he was on loan to his GP and had sent in a sick-note...

    Potentially very good player.

Definitely put him above Cleveland so far

He was superb against Bristol City and Norwich. There's no reason why he shouldn't be able to regain his form.

Has the ability to be a top player but i'm not convinced he is a winger. On natural talent and ability alone he is one of the best in the squad. Would be nice to see him back in the starting line up on saturday as he is one of the few players who can play a pass to feet.

Wouldn't agree he's underperformed, he's just not be given a long enough run in the team. Our Manager cannot make up his mind between him and Taylor. For my money Saunders is better than Taylor and Wood and would be in my starting eleven.
Taylor is Shakes MK2 and Wood is well out of his depth.

I cant believe that anyone (apart from Foster) is worse than Taylor.
AS has certainly signed some dross this season.

Wise words. We are crying out for a midfielder who can see a pass and deliver it and Saunders fits the bill. Trouble is our midfield has been sitting so deep that quite often the only option is to launch the ball 40 yards upfield. Saunders is the long-term option, not Bostock, and he should be given a run in the side where he can fill the enormous gap between our forwards and midfield.

Can't believe the support Saunders is getting on this thread - someone said he'd be in their first choice 11?!?!?! Why?!?! 2 good games in August and nothing since. Not a shot, not an assist, not a goal.

Taylor has also been a disappointment but at least he's scored (1-1 at Saints), he can beat a player, and is quicker than Saunders. During our recent very poor spell he had a good game at home to Gateshead. In contrast, Saunders played against Gateshead away and was pathetic - barely even tried to take his man on and when he did, the full back literally stood in his way to block him then walked the ball up the pitch. Even his ball control was woeful.

I don't have anything against Saunders, just pointing out the fact that he's been a massive, massive disappointment. Apart from Scott Canham, I can't ever remember being so excited about a signing we've made, and then so let down after watching his 'performances'.
