Two starts and looking like two MOTM awards for King Kev. He's going to change a few peoples' opinions of whether he merits a regular place in the side if he continues putting in performances like that.

His domination of the defensive midfield area in the first 20 minutes was the platform for our success in the match. Dave & Douglas played closer to the opposition penalty area while Crewe's midfield must have felt they were running into a wall; it was 30 minutes before they had a meaningful shot. If you're going to play a diamond, you need a rock at the back of it.

KOC was immense against Crewe, MOTM for me. A captain's performance. I would play him in every game. It's no coincidence for me that the midfield operated so much better with him as the anchor.
Kev provides leadership, experience, solidity, composure and breaks down the opponents' attacks. He always seemed to know what to do with the ball as soon as he received it.
I find Kev's contribution is often very undervalued by some on the GPG; good to see him getting his just due after yesterday's performance - long may it continue.
I appreciate that he didnt really have any affect on the attacking play against Crewe but I can't help but notice that the only game we've convincingly won so far this season is the only game that Kev has started. I'd much rather have him and his voice in front of the back four it just seems a more balanced formation when he's there especially when its Dave/Forshaw that have played at the base of the diamond in his absence and that suits neither of them.
no surprise our best performance of the season has been when Kev played
Too true
Should never have been dropped. Our system needs a player like Kevin sitting. He's disciplined to do that. Let's the others play. Poor decision to leave him out since Crewe......

If we play the diamond formation he must start as the holding midfielder.

Very true, with the youngster we are playing Kev's experience, discipline and calm manner is required at this stage of the season, just take the Crewe game for example, we have been unable to replicate that one, Why, Because Kev's not there to hold the fort/stablise the ship, after all I think he had played more good matches than poor ones over the years, and that's more than can be said of a few of todays players we have.

Agree with the above. It was no coincidence that we put in our best performance when Kev started. He is incredibly experienced and offers so much at the base of the diamond.... Far more than either Dave or Douglas!
I am not sure what Kev has done to not get a game since then whilst others seem to be immune for the rotation policy. This also seems to be the case with a few others, namely Forrester. I am sure Uwe has his reasons and fitness/protection is certainly one of them, but I think he needs to ensure he applies he rotation to everyone where necessary, including some of his prefered choices.... How Dave, and too an extent Douglas, are starting ahead of Kev at the base of the diamond is beyond me... Along with a few other selections.
Time will tell! On form a midfield of Kev, Forshaw, Adeyemi and Forrester would appear to be a good option with Kev providing the experience in lieu of Douglas, but we all know Uwe won't start with that!
I don't think Douglas should be guaranteed a start and he hasn't always been at his best this season but...........after a poor first half at Walsall he scored and also had 2 other good chances and against Orient I thought he was outstanding. I do think there are enough good individuals this season that we don't need to rely on him and agree that Kev may be a better option if we stick to the diamond.
If we go 442 I think it will suit Douglas better but the sooner Uwe decides his preferred players and formation and sticks to it the better
...............well done with the trophy presentation................
I'm finding this latest Kev resurgence both in the team and also as a beloved figure held fondly to the bosom of 'the fan' fascinating.
Let's just put aside Kev's commitment to the club aside for one second. If you could plot a graph with a y axis showing 'popularity' and an x axis expressing 'years' I'd wager this is the highest point Kev has enjoyed for quite a time. Historically his relative lack of popularity may partly be due to non appearance due to injury but also lets face it he's spent most of his time at the club as a squad rather than a team man. It's been fits and spurts season upon season and for that you have to hand it to him for sticking it all out. I'm fairly certain there were a few on here calling for him to be ditched not that long ago.
I'm off to draw a graph.
Kevin O'Connor- substitute for a season and a half. A SEASON AND A HALF.
Think 470 odd appearances would disagree
I have no doubt the graph will show your point to be wrong![]()

Averaging nearly 40 games a season must say something about him as a player and what all his managers think of him as a player.

It's a well known fact that, at the end of the day, the best players at any club are the ones who don't play.

Many many many off the bench. Look I'm not a KOC detractor. I'm merely saying it's interesting how his popularity as a nailed on starting XI player has waxed and waned over his time with us. And let's not pretend people on here after some of those 470 games have said 'he's not good enough'.
