Very pleased to see the big man on the scoresheet once again tonight. I had just about lost all hope he was ever going to come good. Hopefully this is a taste of things to come, particularly with regards to next season when we run out of Loftarse Road on the opening day of next season in the Championship.

Is overall play was outstanding again, ripped apart the PNE defence, scored a penalty and a header
Missed a one on one which led to te first goal
had another and keeper saved it
then he raced through again and perhaps should have lobbed the keeper but he took it on and forced a save,
Doesn't seem to be able to score in one on one situations that's my only criticsm of Clayton

There is a comparison. Macdonald has only contributed to only 1 more goal than Donaldson this season. You would consider that Donaldson has had a bad season by his standards and Macdonald a good consistent one, and your unlikely to get much better from him giving his past goal scoring record. Also Macdonald is injury prone hence playing less games meaning that Donaldson is available when you need him which is a bonus. In fact I don't really remember Clayton getting injured this season. Plus Donaldson is 3 years younger and technically at his peak so will be more than able to have his best season yet next season. Where as Macdonald is 31 and has probably had his best days.

    Spot on

He said: “I never doubted him. I wasn't getting carried away when he wasn't scoring or when he does.
“He's had a lot of awesome performances. He was unstoppable and their defence couldn't deal with him.
“He's received some criticism before but has proved his worth for us."

Clayton's work and contribution outside the box has been outstanding this season. If he can add the goals we will have a very valuable commodity on our hands and the poachers will come out.
I'd love the goals to flow next season but that would be the danger and I hope he isn't flogged in Jan.

I said in another thread that to me CD wanted to score so badly thats why he kept missing but once he scored 2x games in a row his confidence will be better and he will be a top scorer. Everyone seems to forget he has just moved 250 odd miles, gone up a division and has much harder opponents and has totally new team mates and possibly a different style of play. Players need time to bed in surely?? The sad thing about this is that apart from the goals hes done well. I reckon next season he will come good for the goals and bag at least 18-20. He contributes so much more than goals and i genuionely hope he proves the doubters wrong!!!!!

Has his form improved as a result of not having Alexander not moving around him?

Agree with all of this. He's had a couple of poor performances this season but goals aside his all round play is excellent IMO and having taken a bit of pressure of himself now, hopefully he'll relax and the goals will come more freely.

True and that's disappointing but hopefully with a few goals under his belt he'll regain a bit of composure and start tucking those sorts of chances away. Putting a positive slant on it, at least he got himself in the positions to miss them. He's done very little of that recently. From small acorns and all that.

You do have to wonder if Gaz leaving has been the difference maker. Or, to be fair, Clinton coming in.

I just think people are getting ahead of themselves.

If Clayton gets more clinical, then I will relax. He does need to have the chances to miss them though, as you say - this is definitely an improvement on a few games ago. I'll keep the champagne on ice for the moment.

I think at this point in time its about him building confidence and scoring on a regular basis. Has always worked hard for the team just needed some goals. If he scores and we win then it does not matter about the chances missed, but hopefully he will finish the season in a rich vein of form.
It was just one of those things....

The lead up to our 1st goal keeper saved but he shot straight at him 2nd was in a chase with keeper coming out and lost out on a 60/40 3rd he was clear on goal and had a couple of touches on the ball but his final touch was poor and the ball run through to keeper.that was my take on it and this all happened inthe first 25 mins.Clayton still has a bit more to do to convince me that he can get the goals we will need next season if we.expect to go up.but 3 in 2 games will hopefully be the start of good things to come.someone posted that not having GA along side him may be a plus for him could be something in that.

Lack of confidence is a massive flaw in professional footballers isn't it? If I was their employer, I would expect them to come to work full of the stuff. If I went to work 'a bit edgy' and spent my shift hesitating and making upteen cock ups, I reckon my boss (who I suspect pays me slightly less than Clayton gets) possibly wouldn't put up with it for too long .

Still, onwards and upwards Clayton - keep them coming and prove to us all that you really are the new .
    If we beat Southend.

Clayton Donaldson does not share the name of a product that contains four hundred times the maximum daily recommended intake of toxins for children per portion.
There is little fat on him.
He has the ability to be among the leagues top scorers.
I predict that he will be the leagues top scorer next season.
