I'd have said that's the least of our needs: Douglas, Diagouraga, Forshaw, O'Connor, Reeves already with us as CM, Saunders and possibly Forrester to add for some formations, and Oyeleke might come into the reckoning. GK is probably the only position where we've more depth

We'll only be getting a centtre mid in if Reeves does'nt step up which I truly hope he does this year. Really want this to be his year.
Kevin O'Connor- substitute for a season and a half. A SEASON AND A HALF.

My thoughts exactly. By the looks of him in preseason it could well be.

It's been a while since we had an outstanding midfield prospect coming from the yoot and it's exciting. All hail Jay Tabb .The closest we've had of late I guess is Uuusburne now of Millwall. Though he's a defender of course. I thought last years pre-season showed Reeves was ready but clearly a few league games showed he wasn't quite ready. I dearly hope he is this time. Come on Jake!

I don't want to appear a killjoy honest but there is a chasm between friendlies vs non league oppo and trialists and league 1 football. I too think that Jake has shown in glimpses he has something about him, a real football brain and vision, it's whether he can transfer that into a competitive arena and whether he will be able to develop the strength and pace to cope. I don't think we can carry people if we want to be serious contenders so maybe he is best learning and getting regular start place in league 2 for a few months rather than warming our bench. If we let him out for half a season and insist he starts and monitor we can't lose as we get back a better, match fit player who is like a new signing.

I'm not sure he isn't ready for league football, he lost his place last year when Diagouraga came back from injury and didn't reclaim it. He is a very talented footballer, and I expect with the 7 subs he will feature a lot even if just sitting on the bench.

The manager and club wouldn't be putting him into these starting line-ups if they didn't feel he was a viable option for league games. I expect he'll play in a few of the early games and then the club will see from there.

Not quite sure I agree, have you seen some of the line ups in recent friendlies and do you think a lot of them are in serious contention for a starting berth.

Don't get me wrong I rate Jake but don't think he'll improve if only warming the bench as one of 7 subs week in week out as won't get enough competitive football to develop quickly, hence why a loan may be better. That's me assuming he won't edge in front of Jon Douglas, Sam S, Harry, Adam Forshaw and or anyone else in a 4 man midfield just yet?

I think we are talking about Jake appropriately on here in rleation to any possible centre mid signings and wether we need one. And he's a Bees player not anything to do with Tottenham so that's ok.

    So moving on..............

I wonder if Uwe is going to come back through customs with a couple of lower league German players in his hand luggage?

No your quite right mate. Success in friendlies does not necessarily result in playing well for the first team. However it looks to me like physical strength and fitness levels (he won the bleep test for example) is the area that he has clearly worked hard on an improved which is what makes me think this could be a good year for him.

Yep you're right he has worked on his fitness without doubt. It's his ability to make the right decisions under pressure that will make or break Jake this season. My hope/wish is that he comes through. If he does, we will have one hell of a player on the books.

Yeah fair point. He certainly wont get as much time on the ball in the league. Agreed, he could certainly be a top player for us.

Maybe I expected too much from him after the Stoke friendly last season when I thought we'd unearthed a gem who would take league 1 by storm.
He looked excellent in the Hayes game and really hope he comes of age this season but just being cautious.

    Speak for yourself......Pacy forward plus
a first choice right back and left back as well and we'll be set as suspect a couple of midfielders ready to step up to the plate.

Agreed. Scored and got an assist at Hampton. Upfront in the first game in Germany and played really well, came close to scoring and then played more on the right and was terrosing their left back in the second half. Second game also played well and then went more towards left wing with Tsoumou upfront alone. Link up with other players seems to be better and is getting more stuck in. His speed is frightening and a real asset but lacks a football brain but it seems this preseason he's improved and with UR in charge there's no reason why he can't improve, learn and adapt to the way we play.

Excited for the team to come back from Germany and potential signings next week.

For years the problem has been no creativity in midfield, but looks like we have plenty of that now. If anything we may be missing the enforcer in midfield to stand up and be counted against the more physical sides. But no point having creativity if there aren't the forwards to put the ball in the net and hoping we've got a forward lined up, especially as Farid hasn't featured much so is presumably behind in the fitness stakes.

And hopefully Forshaw gets in Biddys ear on a daily basis to the extent where he signs on loan for us just to shut him up.

He's been brought in to play at centre half as far as I can see so as others have said, we still need a LB.
