Talking of Hampton, what happened to the days when we were the natural progression for their better players? In recent years, they have gone to the likes of Bournemouth (Bartley), Peterborough (Wright) and Pompey (Thompson) instead. I know we can't compete with what some of these clubs may have offered, but we certainly should have players from clubs like that on our radar before most others come sniffing.
IIRC Reason was signed from Crawley having only been there very briefly.

This is always a difficult problem, a lot of talk re non league gems & and 4/5 posted but what about all the non league turkeys we have had - Hudson to start Ricky Reana(s) the blondie that was signed and many others.
However I have been impressed with the development of the youth system which hopefully will pay back in the long term
For example a very distant 10 year old relative of mine lives in the City of London signed by us travels to Uxbridge for training (so distant never met him let alone see him play)
QPR mate p*ssed off as his (his words) promising 12 year nephew signed to us, also tells me that a 15 year old he knows has signed for us and has regular traing etc in Regents Park
Another maate who is a scout for Bexley was really impressed when having an interview at Brentford at the professionalism of the club
So at that age we are really developing and how that will progress up the club up the ranks we hope
That was the season and so is the next season

Dean Inman is Hampton's best player by a mile and is only 20.He will get snapped up by someone at professional level in the near future.Outstanding in the air,can tackle and a very good centre half. Was meant to have had a trial at Burnley a few weeks ago until Eddie Hutchinson put him out for a few weeks in the game against Havant & Waterlooville and he should have seen red for that tackle.Has really impressed me in the 6 or so games i have seen him this season.

Is it still a case of write to the club........well that's what we were told back in the day. Always found it strange how someone like Burnley could be interested / offer a trial - maybe the Bees are all over him as well but we just don't make the headlines / don't get told if we fail etc etc

More likely to be Warburton who would have the lower league local knowledge rather than Uwe.

Eddie Howe has a habit of bringing on good up and coming players.

A mate of mine is very close with Dean Inman and as you say he will be at a football league side next season its pretty much certain. He's been on trial at Qpr, Portsmouth and couple of others i believe. Brentford were said to have watched him a few times i believe whatever happened there i do not know. However he will be getting an agent in the summer i believe and no doubt he will be pushing him for the best possible move so would be interesting to see where he ends up.

Douglas I think I recall hearing was wanted by Rosler even though he hadn't been appointed when he was approached. Ditto Donaldson although I would be interested to know just how much he knew of him or whether he got him on reputation alone. Logan is obviously Rosler's. I suspect that the later signings are more Rosler's or at least he has better knowledge even if Warbuton recommends them.

The biggest criticism of the club I believe (not just Rosler) is that our scouting network doesn't seem up to scratch which is why we have consistently failed to attract the players. This is ironic given that our backroom staff must be the most expensive and extensive in our history but it's no good if it only identifying kids for the Development squad. I also have a concern that the management team don't see enough games down South and I think that is far from ideal. Both Allen and Scott prided themselves on their extensive knowledge of players (particularly Southern based) and I wonder if Rosler has the same. I would like to know how many southern reserve games or non-league games Rosler or Farrell get to or sends a trusted scout to for example.

I believe that Uwe has the right ideas but the club is not identifying the players to match the ambition and my worry is that this will continue in the summer. I really do think we need to have our management team based in the South and Rosler should be encouraged to relocate if he can't commit enough time because of where he is based.

Whether these issues will be sorted in time for the summer remains to be seen - if our target area is the North West then we're going to continue to struggle to attract decent permanent players. If you're 28 on a good wage playing up there, it's got to be a bloody good offer to want you to come to Brentford.

HorshamBee might pass comment on this post.

Really good point! Be interesting to see quite how 'committed' Uwe is come the summer.
I think with all his team now in place we deserve his full attention for the run in and building for next year. I don't want to see him doing corporate shite for Man City again, we should be his first love.

Does that also mean players, managers etc should never appear on MOTD and football focus?

Uwe can do extra curricular things if he wants, it promotes our club and if it earns him a few quid then so be it.

I don't see how being a special guest at Man City promotes our club. Most of their fans would already know about him being our manager and it's not like his appearance there got a wide audience. If he wants a career in media or a job at city then so be it. MA did a lot of media work with us but I would say 90% helped publicise the club to a wider audience. I didn't see him going on jollys to west ham. Amd before some people say this is an MA love in or anything I'm just pointing out that Uwe's priorities should lie closer to home at such a crucial time.

Maybe his media exploits looked good on his CV when posted to other clubs whilst the manager of BFC.

Sounds like he won't be at The Bev next season then, as will a lot of their half decent players, when they get relegated, which seems a certainty.

Agreed. It's a bit different sitting in the Isleworth studios of Sky or covering a London/SE match. I don't have any concern with a one-off visit to Man City, but the idea of him living in Manchester & getting back to family regularly worries me. He should be doing enough travelling on scouting missions already without having to build that into his routine.

Leroy lived away from home I believe, & Butcher was at least going to move down but probably didn't last long enough - they probably wouldn't have succeeded anyway but it's an interesting coincidence. It may not be the be-all & end-all but I can't believe that having family so far away from the club helps.

Still no better I reckon. Many coaches, few scouts perhaps?

GOOD call! Agreed. I've not personally seen him but don't you just get a gut feeling about this one? : )

Also - the chap who scored a bucketfull of goals at HANWORTH VILLA. I think there was two. Chelsea - yes, Chelsea - scouted one of their FA Cup games. Worth a look.
