    Ciggy displays now Banned.

Aint this government got anything better to do, it's pathetic. I gave up smoking baccy 30 months ago so I'm not a non smoker preaching. Why doesn't our pathetic government go the whole hog and ban stacks of booze in the supermarket aisles. If it wasn't for the tax on smoking the government would be skint. You can't have it all ways.Millions are spent on advertising encouraging us not to smoke. A good ban would be to stop our troops going abroad to fight other peoples wars for them. FFS Cameron/Clegg get your act together.

    I had a thought.

Cannabis, Cocaine, Heroin and other such things are not on display - But still get used by children.

This is a Headline Chaser for the boys in Parliament - See what we have done, we have taken serious action to reduce the sale of cigarettes to minors - We do this not be cause we can, but beacause it is easy and makes us look good.

The hard stuff we should be doing, well we just carry on talking but be doing nothing.

Quite right-as if having fags etc covered up is going to make someone start or put off anyone who smokes! The tax issue as well.
I'm so wound up its time for a fag-ciggie that is

Proabably the worst drug ever. The Government should simply ban it.

People in the UK have been slower than most in the old world to make the transition to the point where smoking is not considered "normal" but is socially unacceptable. Removing branded products from view is one small step in a total programme.

Indeed, I understand in Australia all cigarette packets are going to be (or already are?) a generic colour.

Now we can all have fun spending time trying to guess which brands are in stock. Should while away a bit of time for both the shop assistant and customer. No clues given!

Very true, but I must confess I now use a electric ciggy. It was checked out bt Dr Chris Steele the ITV doctor. Even he approved and wished he had invented it himself. It's no different from niccotine patches, chewing gum etc.

This why some people drive down to Dover, board a ferry, fukc off down to Belgium, buy as much baccy as what they can afford, bring it back to the UK and flog it. That's if you can get past customs of course.

Where it goes wrong though is when people can't have fun because they can't have drink or drugs.

Really don't see the point in smoking, it's not even a proper drug.

You should watch John Travolta in Broken Arrow. Anything that stops kids starting is fine by me. All smokers wish they never started including me.

Don't really have a problem with the principle, but the practice is another matter.

I was in Oz over Xmas where they now have a similar 'hide the fags' policy and it was weird buying cigarettes. First you prowled round the shop to see if there was a closed bhox with fag prices on. Then you peered to see if you could read what there was. Then you queued only to find they didn't have them in stock. Then they closed the front so you could read the list again. then you asked for another size or brand only to find... etc.

Particularly confusing was that Pall Mall reds (for example) were available in packs of 20, 25 and 40, but not all in the same place at the same time.

I notice in Waitrose Richmond, the list is printed so small that you can't even read it from the other side of the till, which is a nonsense.

It will not affect the corner shops yet

The regulations will come into force for large stores on April 6 2012 and on April 6 2015 for all other shops.
