Shearer really slating IT. W⚓
Becauze he's right. He was very poor, as he was the last ten or so games. Shearer doesn't have any personal vendetta. For whatever reason he's not up to scratch. Objective fact. It's a shame he didn't do more.

Brazil getting outclassed by a team full of confident and skilful players who are providing a template on how to play against them.

Same for Raphina, Paqueta and I could go on and on. Brazil look bang average.

Not a great game from Thiago, didn't do himself many favours.. although Brazil have been pretty poor all over but for Vini Jr.
Keith just texted Ancelotti to remind him that he wants Igor good and fresh for August, hence the substitution.

Which is fair enough.

Shearer’s comments are 💩as usual, Brazil just haven’t played to his strengths

I have seen many games where Erling Haaland has barely touched the ball and he's the best striker in the world. It is a little bit thick to spend the half telling everyone how bad the Brazil midfield has been and not join the dots to work out why the centre forward has been ineffective.

Thiago was getting in good positions, but everytime Raphinha had it, he knew the ball.was not going to be crossed, instead Raphinha deciding to run into the nearest player
They don't seem to cross the ball much. Their forward line get the ball and look for a close pass.

They play fluid football and Thiago unfortunately doesn't fit.

Where was the fluid football??? Do you really believe that Carlo Ancelotti (yes that Carlo Ancelotti) has picked a player that doesn't fit into the style of play?

He said he offered nothing. That was because his teammates offered him nothing. One chance and folk have overestimated the probability of a goal coming from that even if he connected with it.

I’d rather have our midfield than the one that started for Brazil.

And Fabinho - had completely forgotten then he’s still around…

With the exception of Vini, who has buzzed round and looked dangerous, they have played sh*t football.today

Didnt get the service. But he was also below par IMO.

Brazil always used to be about flair and exciting football.
All.i have seen them do today is chase the ball around a lot and when they are in possession, lose it very quickly.

A game drifting away.

Looked promising at the start.

Certainly isn't a patch on the great Brazilian teams of 1970 & 1982!

If the corner thing with VAR is always as quick as it just was, I have no issue with it. However I don’t see why it can’t overturn goal kicks which clearly should have been corners as well.

This keeper wont know which bit of his body to hold next to time waste.
Fist it was his ankle, now his ribs.
Im going knee next

Igor may not have had the greatest of games but there have been a couple of times already since his substitution where Brazil have sorely missed having a proper number 9 around the edge of the six yard box.

The argument was that a corner always takes 30 seconds to set up which allows for plenty of checking time without causing a delay.

I suspect referees will end up giving corners whenever they remotely unsure, knowing that the tech will save them if it was wrong.

10 mins added. My host groans... as this eats into his planned nap time before the Scotland game.

Scotland will do well to escape from this group. A win this evening is probably critical.

Well, I was concerned for Thiago's chances to feature in the rest of the games after he got subbed. However their attack looked even worse afterwards, Cunha anonymous.

Yes, but they do have the extremely talented Aaron Hickey to help them achieve it. Who does he play for, again?

Oddly, all of the other centre forwards Brazil has used have done f*** all either.

They got absolutely no better after Thiago came off, arguably worse! Two good teams though cancelling each other out? Probably. Suspect Thiago will get more minutes vs Scotland or Haiti.

A pity that Thiago didn't score with either of his chances, the second looking like a decent effort. Beyond those, it seemed very difficult for him to make an impression, with so much of Brazil's attacking play being channelled to Vinícius Jr and Raphinha on the wings (without many crosses), or just lost in midfield. Leading the line, Thiago was often having to press the defenders and Bouaddi pretty much by himself - in contrast to Morocco hunting much more in packs. He also dropped back to win the ball well in midfield at least once.

Ancelotti might value those efforts and Thiago's willingness to carry out that role. When he was replaced, Brazil seemed to go to more of a 4-2-2-2 with Vinícius and Raphinha up top and Cunha generally much deeper on the left of midfield, so more of a tactical change than switching the striker.

Its incredible for Hickey, out for so long and now here he is starting for Scotland in the the World Cup, I hope Scotland win just for him

Must say that there's a lot of Scots in Boston. This one will be a sell-out!

This is by no means a formality for Scotland. Haiti are big and strong and at the moment arguably look the more threatening. With Brazil and Morocco to come both sides need a win here.

1-0 Scotland. McGinn via two defections, apparently. We’ve got up to watch this here in France but can’t get the match on tv or radio. Keeping up-to-date via BBC live score.

Yeah but 94 was generally much slower football in a lot of matches
You play to what the conditions allow you to. It's called pacing yourself. They are professionals after all with health meters strapped on their chests.

Yes, two deflections. He'd badly mishit the shot too. Haiti still looking strong, fast and direct. Hickey made an excellent last ditch tackle to prevent an almost certain goal.

Gannon-Doak is Scotland's best attacking outlet.

Not disagreeing with you, but the world cup has been held in Mexico (twice), USA, South Africa and Brazil all without hydration breaks and all without collapsing.
And until recently years only 3 subs could be made, less before that.

I was ten in 1994 so it was my first WC memory; helped by Ireland being there. Big Jack (RIP) clashed with FIFA officals over water breaks. It was a particular problem in the Ireland v Mexico match when Jack threw water bottles on. As the tournament progressed FIFA eventually allowed water bags for player welfare. Big Jack is a legend for many reasons; one of those reasons is challenging FIFA despite threats of a ban. The waterbreaks in this WC are correct, they have to consider player welfare and thankfully sports science has moved on since 1994 when FIFA at that time initally refused to listen.

Watching it live here , in the Gulf of Mexico.
Two fairly evenly matched sides, both playing well, with Haiti having the bulk of attacking posession. A touch of luck for McGinn's opener, but Scotland also defending very well.
A certain A.Hickey looking very solid.
Should be a good second half.......
Ben Doak looking very lively amd combining very well with Hickey on the right.

Love that Haiti is playing so open and free despite having literal 2nd tier American league players on their team. Clearly outmatched on paper, but they are doing the opposite of what Arsenal has tried to turn the game into. And its working for them too. Shocking this game isnt tied imo (posted in 74th minute)
