Micah Richard’s talking a lot of sense for a change !!!!

World Cup Pundits

Wha? You've been out in the sun too long, must be hallucinating.
He is a star and fountain of footballing knowledge we compared to those other two numpties

BWP is very good.
Made an interest point that the Canadian player makes a habit of initiating contact, obviously knows him from MLS.

World Cup Pundits

Rick whatever his name is on Radio 5 dumbs down his voice to discuss football. His voice is actually a nicely modulated oxbridge presentation. So silly and patronising to try to become ‘Tel from the Terraces’

World Cup Pundits

Bradley Wright Phillips popped up on ITV just before the 2nd half.
Vocal only.
Not sure why.

Why does Shearer shout so much when he’s co-commentator (or whatever his role is called when he’s not in the studio)?

Separately, I’ve yet to hear him say anything worthwhile. Just states the bleeding obvious, time after time.

To be fair to him he did say (/shout) that ‘pressure is for tyres’ once and that’s something that has stuck with me when I’ve found myself in stressful situations.

He is terrible, describes what you have just seen as if it is profound, his attempts at humour are appalling and as you say thinks he is adding to the excitement by yelling after every goal. Overall he sounds like someone who has done a correspondence course in co commentating. Once again inexplicable casting by TV companies

They had extreme success with one England icon (Lineker), and thought they’d go one better next time, with an ex-England Captain. No doubt Shearer’s contract must be huge, and the only way that the BBC can justify this is to force feed AS to us at any, and every, opportunity.

Agree with all of that, bar the "inexplicable" bit at the end. For as a former England No.9, he's amongst a select band* of footballers of whom people who do not know much about football will have heard, so might get/keep them watching, while persuading them that "the coverage must be good, cos' Shearer was good".

Which is just an extension of the companies' clear policy of employing people who played for the most popular club - Rooney, Keane, Neville etc - since the gullible section of their huge fanbase will swallow it up, seeing as how they lack the discernment to know better.

* - Another one is Gazza, but not even TalkShite could take a chance on him!

These pundits must be hoping for ET and penalties every game. Now left with an hour to fill 🤣

World Cup Pundits

Is it a co incidence that the dullest co commentators or pundits are ex Arsenal ?
Dixon / Alan Smith / Keown
Dixon is actually one of the very few pundits who has anything remotely interesting to say. His thoughts on defensive organisation are often worth listening to even if he isn't exactly charismatic

What's happen to Emma Hayes? I've not see her since her Father's Day outing. Is she still on ITV's "roster"?

What's happen to Thomas Frank? I've not see him since him for a while. Is he still on BBC's "roster"?

World Cup Pundits

I think as less teams left, less commentary teams and studio. The itv team for the Morocco match said that was their last match

Maybe they asked her to clean that kitchen and she told Roy Keen to do it?

Hasnt she got a job out there ??

Maybe pre season work

Fair play to Steve Bower and Danny Murphy - I enjoy their pairing much more than Mowbrey and Shouty Shearer

I see that for 2025/26, Alan Shearer trousered £390k of licence-fee payers money - imo a mere £390k more than he's worth for telling us exactly what we've just seen with our own eyes. (And no, I don't believe that I possess any more insight and understanding than the next bloke, which is why I expect a so-called "expert" like Shearer to tell me something I don't already know.)

It appears that this is actually a decrease on previous payments:
Alan Shearer - £390,000 - £394,999

Match of the Day: Premier League, FA Cup

2024/2025: £440,000 - £444,999

2023/2024: £380,000 - £384,999

2022/2023: £445,000 - £449,999

However, if this latest figure covers the tax year, then we can probably expect 2026/27 to be higher again, seeing as it will cover World Cup 2026.

One small possible consolation is that with no major tournament finals next summer, maybe he'll get round to creosoting his fence again, and we won't have to suffer the boring bar steward for a few weeks, at least.

Thanks @Gawain
Any idea how much ITV is paying Roy Keane?

I was aware that he got paid.

You need to write a letter to Anne Robinson c/o Points of View.

Here we are talking about world cup punditry and we get it turned into Alan Shearer's BBC remuneration. Great. f***ing great.
