Zian Flemming (Fwd / Mid, 27, Burnley to Ipswich)

Very unlikely 28 years old by the time we kick off the season so no resale value. Is he better than lambo Carvalho dasilva Yarmo or Potter who are all younger?

He's a versatile and very clinical striker who still has plenty of good years ahead of him.
Price might be a bit of an issue at his age but given Burnley have been relegated, they might let him go for slightly cheaper?
25 mil for him would be a great price.
Given we've little hope in Schade to be the reserve striker and Furo has still got plenty of developing to do, it would defiantly be a great piece of experience to add to our attack

Zian Flemming (Fwd / Mid, 27, Burnley to Ipswich)

Buying a 28 year old at the top of the market with no sell on potential is a totally un-Brentford thing to do. It’s a no from me.

Zian Flemming (Fwd / Mid, 27, Burnley to Ipswich)

Good case to be made that he's one of the 4-5 best players of the relegation trio (and probably the best if not accounting for West Ham)

If the price isn't too silly I'm all for it
With emphasis on ‘The Price isn’t too Silly’

I would have thought its unlikely that an American website covering "the digital assets industry" and written by AI ("all content is reviewed by a member of our team before publication") has the inside track on this.

As an aside, the American habit of referring to sports teams using singular collective nouns '(Brentford has/Brentford is) rather than the plural (Brentford have/Brentford are) that we use irritates me much more than it should.

Technically correct - there is only one Brentford......so Brentford has/is.

Yes. That's why it annoys me. It sounds completely wrong to our ears but is actually right.

From a sports journalism style guide (where I might have amended some of the examples): In British English, teams are primarily referred to in the plural. In American English, they are generally singular.

Geographic Rules
  • British English (UK): Collective nouns are often treated as plural because you are referring to the individual players making up the squad. For example, you would say, "Brentford are playing at home today," or "Arsenal have won the league".
  • American English (US): Teams are treated as a single corporate entity. For example, you would say, "Miami is playing at home today". However, if the official team name ends in a plural, it takes a plural verb (e.g., "The Lakers are winning").

Choosing the Right Option
  • The Organisation: If you are referring to the club as a business or a location, the singular is acceptable in all regions (e.g., "Fulham Football Club is known for its association with questionable individuals" or "Chelsea is an established creative accounting organisation").
  • The Playing Squad: For sports commentary, match recaps, or referring to the players, use the plural in the UK (e.g., "QPR are losing").
Anyway Koeman was criticised by some for not including Zian Flemming in the Dutch World Cup squad ahead of Wout Carthorst. Would imagine anyone on the edge of the Dutch national team, available for a modest (by football standards) price, is worth taking a look at.

Zian Flemming (Fwd / Mid, 27, Burnley to Ipswich)

Other than, scoring 1 goal every 3 games for a team that finished 19th. I think he’d add real depth and back up to Thiago. Who knows he might have a relegation clause in his contract and he’s available at a good price. Anyone know how many years he’s got left on his contract?
TR/MKT = 2029. Millwall paid £7m to bring him over from the Netherlands in 23?/24? Not known what Burnley paid.
£15/20m would seem decent for an experienced PL attacker with 5 or 6 years career expectancy remaining.

Zian Flemming (Fwd / Mid, 27, Burnley to Ipswich)

Nor is he imho
Fleming had a higher non-penalty goals per 90 mins (0.46) than Thiago did last season (0.38).

Whilst not the be all and end all, it's not too shabby a stat to have as a back up. He might have a relegation release clause in his contract that makes him good value, and whilst Furo looks a great talent he is still very young and untried at anything approaching Premier League level.

No one from that website knows how much he’s earning.
No, but they bought him for 7m from Milwall so probably a reasonable estimate.

It’s a finger in the air. Transfer fees don’t necessarily dictate wages.

Clearly, but the point i'm making is that it's safe to assume ZF's wages offer good value for money against his playing stats. We'll leave that one there I think 👍

Zian Flemming (Fwd / Mid, 27, Burnley to Ipswich)

At this stage in his career, I doubt he’s looking for starts in the early rounds of Cup games and 30 minutes from the bench a few times in a season. I assume his agent is looking for a starting spot in the Eredivisie.

Kaye Furo is our back up striker unless he’s been written off already by some on here.He is 19 an age where many younger players are flourishing in the premier league.

Half a season training with his colleagues and watching us play, plus minutes in the Cup, lines him up nicely for a full pre-season and PL opportunities from the bench. It’s a natural progression and he’s ours already.

There's no harm in having another experienced player, with a strong personality and good character in our squad, especially with the probable influx of more young players.

He would certainly slot in quickly and make us more competitive in the short term. I don't see a lot of downside in targeting a player like Flemming.
At the right price we should be interested.

Zian Flemming (Fwd / Mid, 27, Burnley to Ipswich)

You can probably buy the whole town of Burnley for 35M :)
It’d certainly be tough to get past if played in midfield too.

Zian Flemming (Fwd / Mid, 27, Burnley to Ipswich)

We will be after much better players than him in this window, not that i think he's a bad player but the bar will be higher than him i hope.

Only nine days into the window and plenty more transfer porn to come so don't peak too early ;)

I’ve seen a lot of posts with the lack of resale value, age, unlikelihood of breaking into first team as a straight NO.

Furo needs a chance and therefore time, Fabio’s given at most glimpsing suggestions he could be a reliable second striker, and Kev and Dango both had fine if hardly inspired seasons that would suggest they could too.

The guy scored 11 in 29 for a side who managed only 38 overall.

Yes it would great if every player could have Yarmo potential but next season more than ever we’re gonna need a full squad to call upon.

In games where it might not be happening for Igor, I’d rather have Fleming as an option then not

Agree 100%. I’ve got a feeling we’ve moved on from looking only at players with resale value and will also be looking at those who can strengthen the squad immediately. KA has spoken of improving on last season and at the right price he’d be a very good addition.

I also wonder whether there's more value in "unsexy signings" than there used to be, as there's more herding into potential...

At some point if we want to progress there is going to be a time where potential resale value isn't the absolute priority on every player we bring in.
Flemming would add a lot to the side so if he can be added at a reasonable price then I hope we genuinely consider him.

Exactly. Last season when Igor wasn’t having his best games, we essentially ran him into the ground for the full 90 in hopes he’d turn it around. Of course his output was bound to slow down from his outrageous usual level. We need proper cover for him here and now, and if Furo isnt trusted to be that for us yet, we need to bring someone in who is.

Zian Flemming (Fwd / Mid, 27, Burnley to Ipswich)

I do like him and think he would be a good player for us, we have seen us do it before with Pontus, Mee and Vibe, but I think they are going to hold out for big money so that will be an issue, at his age.

Agreed. I don’t see Furo getting much first team action next season so an additional forward is a must.

Maybe I’ve only seen him in the 2 out of 3 games where he doesn’t score then…

Did someone get a sniff that we were in for a Burnley forward but picked the wrong horse?
