Loved his appearance in the pre-season friendly at the G Tech (against Lille / Lyon?). I know it was only a friendly, but he didn’t look out of place at all. Arrived at Brentford with a season of men’s league football under his belt.

In Briers' case, I'd say it helped him. He made a handful of appearances in L1, made something of a breakthrough in L2 and then got out when they were relegated to the Conference. They're now back in L2, and he's in L1, so the B team "sign here and, if you're good enough, transfer out to a level higher from whence you came" thing has worked out for him.

I was thinking exactly this the other day.

I understand some bemoaning the lack of b team players coming into the first, but as we say with Tony Yogane, playing for the B team combines the outside possibility of promoting to the first but doesn’t diminish any attraction from league 1 + Champ sides. So that combo I’d say still makes it an attractive proposition
