I think there’s a difference between signing players from relegated sides who severely underperformed e.g. West Ham and signing them from sides whose lack of quality is far more apparent, Burnley.

Which is why scoring 8 for Burnley may actually be even better than it already is

We do, indeed, excel at this and we’re excellent at doing it, too, and it’s possible that the club might even use Excel to collate the information in several of our databases we use.

Joking aside, a player’s talent becomes more obvious when given more opportunities to display it and relies on his/her teammates to provide those opportunities so although we might perceive a player to be ‘average’ because of the player’s record when a club is considering a purchase they will have an in-depth analysis of what the player can do and what he/she can add to the team and what they may be able to achieve and develop. To date, we have a pretty good record at improving each player who has signed for the club so I, for one, am happy to see this continue.

He’ll be 31-32 at the end of the contract, so it may be the term was a deal-clincher with other clubs hovering about. A return to the South and a contract that secures his and his family’s future.

I’m assuming we’ve tracked him from the time he joined AFCB, so we’ll have good data on which to make our judgement. For a £20M total package that appears to be good value.

Not on your own! I don’t see how anyone could watch him last season and come to any other conclusion than him being a bright spark in a side that wasn’t good enough to stay up.

No one would be moaning if we brought in Matheus Fernandes, Joao Gomes, Bowen, Summerville, etc.

Seems like a very solid signing! Unlikely to be a star, but a star isn't what the team needs.

A Prem level player who is a legitimate threat off the bench, while also having the ability to start some matches without being a liability is something the squad has lacked the past few seasons.

Schade flattered to deceive last season and if we can bring someone in to get him to sharpen up then I think it will be revelatory. When Kevin is on it he is a great player but too often last season he flounced about like a spoiled kid, a bit of competition will either sharpen his act or he will eventually leave. I would love to stay and fulfill all the potential we know is there.

31-32 is not knackers yard age these days though. He could, if he’s performed strongly with us, quite easily have good sale value with a couple of years left on his contract or have developed into a Welbeck level player who we can keep on well past 32.

Also before then he’ll have amortised out to have nil cost beyond wages for SCR and be pure profit at any sale price.

Was very impressed with him last season. Dragged Burnley through games almost on his own with his scoring from out wide. Great technique, work rate and composure. I think this is exactly the type of player we need to bolster our ranks in the wide positions.

I dont believe this is our first choice LW option but a very good squad addition to give an option in games off the bench or as a starter in the event of injuries or opposition dependant

Seems like a decent signing, went to school just up the road from where we live, my friend's son was in his class and says he's a lovely lad. Wishing him nothing but good things, hopefully can feed Igor with some decent crosses.

I'd be disappointed if we replaced a 24 year old Schade who's scored 20 goals across the last 2 premier league seasons (a 40 million player) with a 26 year old Jaydon Anthony who's scored 8 goals in one premier league season (a 17 million player).

I stick with @Bumbling fool and I imagine most fans with sense that we aim higher that Anthony as an out and out replacement for Schade.

I think that'll prove to be decent value for money. Like someone else said, he will raise floor if not the ceiling. Gives us more options and improves the squad. That is 100% something we need.

Given our experience last season, I would be amazed if we are simply working on a one out one in with Schade and Anthony.

The club isn't stupid, they know that doesn't improve us and it's long been stated that the priority with any signing is to move the squad forward.
