Let me join the dots for you.

Host Nation star striker gets sent off and therefore suspended for the biggest match in his (adopted) country's history.

President of Host Nation and close friend of FIFA President, plus the Host Nation's Secretary of State, criticise the decision.

FIFA is desperate to ensure the continued participation of the Host Nation in the tournament because its addicted to the commercial income

Host Nation star striker's suspension is miraculously lifted despite there being no appeals mechanism and an acknowledgment that the decision was correct.

And that has no echoes of corruption?

Nowhere does it state you can not use it to determine decisions. It actually says refs can request it.
It also adds that it should only be used for facts such as point of contact which this would purely have been used for.
The ref was obviously already aware of intensity but was unclear of contact. The slo mo and stills just verifies the information he did not know - point of impact.

The NBA is an entirely different sports governing body that all of America hates and agrees is corrupt. Not sure how thats relevant other than you just being mad

Can’t work out if you or I have / will be :whoosh:ed

Rutte is Dutch Secretary General of NATO. Think the original Tweet was referencing Dutch - Belgian rivalry and NATO sucking up to Trump re: funding etc. and being pro USA in the game. Thought it was a bit of a meh joke.

That doesn’t make sense if it was a deserved red then the var did his job correctly .im also not sure I’ve ever heard of a suspended red card for a one match ban .

Back in 2016, Infantino said this after winning the election to be the new FIFA chief.

"And we will restore the image of FIFA and the respect of FIFA, and everyone in the world will applaud us and will applaud all of you for what we'll do in FIFA in the future. We have to be proud of FIFA, and everyone has to be proud of FIFA and we have to be proud of what we'll do together in FIFA."

He added...

"FIFA has gone through sad times, moments of crisis, but those times are over," Infantino said. "We need to implement the reform and implement good governance and transparency. We also need to have respect.

"We're going to win back this respect through hard work, commitment and we're going to make sure we can finally focus on this wonderful game that is football."

Ten years later, when is that starting?

Personally I think presidents of FIFA should last no more than 6 years. Keeps it fresh and less likely from corruption.
No more than 2 terms.

Did anyone pick up on that this world cup is also the first awarded under the Infantino regime, awarded whilst Donald Trump was president during bid submitting and awarding.

So each pre match, a video is shown to all participants that had a slide that included an automatic suspension policy.. my guess is it included players that were on yellow cards and would miss the next game if got another (as a reminder more likely) as well as reminder of rules/policies.
But in today's edition, shown to Belgium (and USA im guessing) this particular slide was removed?

If thats not a conspiracy then I dont know what.

Fifa have completely tainted this world cup.

Infantino elected in 2016.
A year later, Trump is elected president of USA.
2018, a year after Trump is elected, 2 years after Infantino is elected, is when the 3 nations were awarded the competition.

Prior to being awarded, Trump stated that 6 countries could be refused entry and that Infantino said this was not good enough.

An article, dated 9th March 2017, said:

"Donald Trump’s travel ban could prevent the US from hosting the World Cup in 2026, Fifa has warned.

Gianni Infantino, the president of world football’s governing body, said on Thursday that Trump’s revised executive order, which temporarily bars entry to the US for citizens from six majority-Muslim countries, could invalidate any bid from the US. The president’s policy, Infaninto suggested, is incompatible with tournament regulations.

Infantino told reporters in London: “Teams who qualify for a World Cup need to have access to the country, otherwise there is no World Cup. That is obvious.”

So he warned them back in 2017 that everyone must be allowed in.
9 years later, he just ignores that warning.

Iran was one of 6 nations on that list even back then.

So despite 9 years ago saying they wont be able to host if they refuse, they turned a blind eye when Trump denied entry to a referee, Iran (other than day visas) and a few players.
And got to keep their tournament.

As an American I of course want the USA to do well in the World Cup, but a lot of us - myself included - feel really icky about all this. I’m sure he’ll start but part of me wishes Flo would start the game on the bench.

I mean, yeah, he should still be suspended. If he was shut down for tonight and we win, we could’ve been like “Okay, f*** you, we won anyway, on to <whichever Iberian team wins>.” Now if we win, it’s inevitably tainted… probably tainted a gross fake-looking orange hue too, since everything he touches ends up being sh*t.

USA could have used it as ammo to beat Belgium, backs to the wall and all that, but Donny couldnt keep his snout out.
I keep seeing posts from Americans on SM saying "the best players should be playing the matches" - they clearly dont understand how sending offs work.
If Balogun had injured the guy (luckily he didnt), he wouldnt have been able to play the next game

It doesn’t help that there are very few instances in major pro sports in the US where an ejection leads to an automatic suspension. Hell, if there’s an ejection, you don’t even go down a man in baseball, hockey, etc. lol

The hell of it is that I think we were in a good place to take it to Belgium tonight WITHOUT Flo in the lineup… now everyone’s gonna look down at us if we win, even if Flo doesn’t play a big part in the match.

Its ridiculous to think that a player in a sport can be sent off with no repercussions, just bring another one on 🤷‍♂️

Yes, a major schism in USA and other sports played around the world. I'm not sure if I have a preference about which perferable however.
