I would like to formally retract everything I've ever said about Jordan Pickford.

And also Anthony Gordon. I was wrong, in no way whatsoever does he look like the dude out of the Goonies. He is in fact quite handsome, in a northern way.

Looks similar to how I did my humerus, took me all summer to recover. If that is what it is id be eyeing a September return at the earliest. Hes landed on a softer surface and with his body not as square on top of it so I'd be a bit surprised if it was a bad break.

Fear not Carri. There is a formal amnesty during the World Cup. As soon as it’s over, we can go back to hating all of them.

Feel gutted for Quansah.

In 99 ways out of 100, it was a perfect albeit full-blooded tackle, so well-timed and gets there first.

Just that 1% too high and his leg rides the top of the ball on the follow-through which causes the dangerous contact and makes it serious foul play.
I don't think it's fair because it was the ball that caused the high contact, rather than the trajectory of the player alone, which is what should really be judged. But they always get given as red cards - Jake Bidwell against Watford for example.

Here’s what I’ll say: Mexico are clearly not very good. Much worse than I expected.
Cape Verde aren't very good either, but that's not to say such teams will just lie down and make it easy for their opponents. Mexico certainly didn't, and when all things are considered, they presented England with a challenge which many another top team wouldn't have overcome on a night like this.

Totally awesome game and experience, my wife and boys were watching this with me and kicking and tackling every ball. Unbelievable play by the whole squad on and off the pitch, and yes I join the throng to applaud Pickford, a fabulous game and did everything right.

I am just back from a post match walk of the dogs 4am and all is quiet in the East End of Glasgow, except smiley me with energy to burn. Now back home and time for some kip

Nite nite all, what a game!

That was well worth getting up at 0330 to watch on iPlayer . Off to work in 15 minutes 👍

Tuchel saying the refereeing decisions were not good enough.
AND, the VAR team being from South America too - all Spanish speaking! Didn't go unnoticed with me either. That was just purely wrong!

Start work at 6 so no point sleeping! Shades of Rome in 1998 for me, a real test of character passed with flying colours.

So what about the on field ref and linesmen all being English speaking? You could imagine Mexicans complaining about England being officiated by Aussies.

It all worked out in the end.

I think the ref was alright. Unfortunately was a defo red card and a Def pen. Not sure what shearer was on about as had that foul by kane been on Kane he'd have been screaming it was a pen !

England 4 Netherlands 1

That was great but it was at home and in a group game. Given the circumstances, tonight (this morning?) was the finest England victory since 1966. In fact it's arguably our best ever in tournament football. Its the kind of iconic match that will still be being talked about in 50 years time.

Who was the yank digging out the "mighty UEFA" btw?

FULL TIME: England 3 - 2 Mexico (England Red Card (Quansah))

Immense performance by everyone who played. Gordon's best match for England, Kane scores like Kane does, The back 4/5/6/7/8/9 threw their bodies in front of everything, Pickford was a rock and Bellingham was all round superb, not just for the goals but also for the challenge at the end of the first half which saved a certain goal and the non-stop running.

As for the officials, weird one as it appeared that we came off 2nd best but both penalties were nailed on, the sending off was maybe unfortunate in that he bounced off the ball but nevertheless was definitely a sending off and the ref let the game flow as much as possible rather than blow for every innocuous challenge. Maybe only gripe is that he let them get away too much with the protesting (especially at our penalty) without dishing out cards but in fairness to them, on two occasions the ref missed the key incident and it was VAR who bailed him out in their favour.

Had 90 mins sleep now and woken up. Have I missed the repeat ?

Just finished watching the game, got up early to watch the recording. Wow! Up there with our best...maybe not based purely on the performance but with the crowd against us, key decisions going against us*, the altitude, the high pressing and relentless pressure from Mexico, simply brilliant.

*although the red card and penalty were not necessarily bad decisions I do feel they were quite judgemental so for them both to get VAR overturned was pretty harsh IMO.

I’m glad I stayed up to watch it live.

Absolutely nail-biting for me and I couldn’t see how we’d keep them out when we went down to 10 players.

I cringed when Spence and Burn came on but they contributed hugely with all the others.

It seemed like just about everything was against us, and it was a club team type performance that got us through - echoes of Villa vs Bees!

I assume the FA will be requesting to FIFA that Quansah's suspension is lifted after the Balogun one. They were kind of similar to me in that there's no intent but were just unfortunate that the challenge ended up endangering an opponent.

WHAT a win! Bravo. Our big game players well and truly turned up.

And now a nice prolonged rest / break until the Norway match in Miami.

No he didn’t, they were leaving for the water break and the cheating Mexican walked past him and elbowed him in the ribs, it was a complete reflex action of jumping and lifting his right arm up. No contact, ther bloke went down.

All South American football players are ****s and their refs are so used to it they just go along with it.
Do you realise Mexico is in North America?
I guess it's the side effects of suddenly seeing the likes of Gordon and Pickford as great characters and top blokes!

The kind of things only a World Cup can do

Absolutely no chance. Trump is a buddy of Infantino who gave him his peace prize.

Same, 5am start, slight panic when I saw that the recording was 5 hours long that it had gone all the way to penalties before I realised about the rain delay!
