Not taking anything away from England, you have to beat what’s in front of you and that’s never straightforward in a hostile environment.
But Mexico, considering their record this tournament, and their home advantage, were very poor
By far his best game in England shirt and played with responsibility. Said it all Tuchel did not sub him even when bringing Rogers on and we still had one sub available and he could have switched Gordon for madueke or Rashford for fresh legs but Gordon knew his role and played it well.Thought he came across well in his post match interview on the BBC too.
I thought that before game also. Based on bar set for var this World Cup, which I believe is the correct high bar, penalty against Kane should not have been given as clearly re-refereeing. The Quansah red card was dubious as also ref had clear sight and he got the ball first and then his leg went high which was accidental.AND, the VAR team being from South America too - all Spanish speaking! Didn't go unnoticed with me either. That was just purely wrong!
I think defence likely to be that although Haaland will be a factor. Will he bully stones and Guehi? Never thought say this but could Tuchel go Burns and Stones? Changing centre back partnerships never a great idea but we still haven’t got a pair clicking.Bellingham was superb.
The team played well and I loved the sh*thousery.
I still don’t understand Anderson, thought he was poor again.
Konsa at rb with stones at cb looked good to me. I’d go with that against Norway.
When Ivan Toney was asked who was the toughest centre back he played against he nominated Guehi, describing him as so physically strong. I don't think he will be bullied by Haaland, but I would be worried about pace on the counter attack if Haaland gets Guehi in a one on one sprint without a covering player.think defence likely to be that although Haaland will be a factor. Will he bully stones and Guehi?
Slightly different though, as this is the home ground of the team that lost - not a neutral stadium. Pretty sure three lions wasn’t the first first song after the final whistle either at those other games. Oasis and Sweet Caroline are not anthems about football coming home. Just thought it was brilliant and if I was an England player my chest would have been puffed out (what altitude) and my balls weighing me downThey have played it at all the grounds with oasis and sweet Caroline
I think they have played everyone’s songs in the games from what I have heard, it makes a good spectacle and keep the cameras rolling for more adverts

Oh I absolutely did!!Try telling me that you weren't tempted to put it on fast forward at intervals during those last 20 minutes and I won't believe you![]()
Game over
I thought Stones was solid
Couldn't understand Rogers role?
Not sure there's too much secret about it.No point unless you know the secret reasons the USA card was overturned.
Dont think Kenny Burns is available. Too old and Scottish anyway.I think defence likely to be that although Haaland will be a factor. Will he bully stones and Guehi? Never thought say this but could Tuchel go Burns and Stones? Changing centre back partnerships never a great idea but we still haven’t got a pair clicking.
On Anderson I am somewhat in agreement but that could be that Rice and him don’t compliment each other well enough. However he won’t change pairing now and they will gain a better understanding more minutes play together.
Doesn't sit well with me. What is there to appeal? Nailed on red card. Completely against the spirit of the game................ No matter what the cheating yanks are doing.
The only surprising thing is that it's taken this long....The BBC News at 6.00pm today showed a clip of Billy(the Bee)Grant being interviewed after the game, said it’s his eighth World Cup he’s been to following England.
How does he afford it?The BBC News at 6.00pm today showed a clip of Billy(the Bee)Grant being interviewed after the game, said it’s his eighth World Cup he’s been to following England.

And to be honest whilst was an accident Quansah’s would have been given as a red card by VAR in premier league and would not have been overturned on appeal. I don’t believe Balogun’s would have been given and if had would have likely been overturned after the fact.No point unless you know the secret reasons the USA card was overturned.
I think Quansahs is a red card all day long but in my opinion, that's more of an accident that Baloguns. Quansah bounces off the ball although I agree it's reckless to be in that position. Balogun I still can't understand how people don't think that is a deserving red card. He's nowhere near the ball when he makes contact, tackling from behind, making first contact at top of calf and slides all the way down the back of his calf until he crunches into his ankle. Its an ugly challenge and far less of an accident that Quansahs. Both red cards in my opinion. To appeal means that FIFA should (not that they will) show some transparency and give reasoning for their decision. I think that's the most distasteful thing about it so if an appeal had that result, then go for it.

Sorry, but you really cannot tell from a still photo.View attachment 67050
I agree..
Its virtually a straight, outstretched leg with studs in calf and, as you said, his full weight drags said studs down to ankle where the pressures forces him to "bend" the foot.
And its late.
Malice is not relevant. But if you look at the video in real time, I really don't think there was any malice,
He buckled his opponents ankle. It’s a red card every time. It matters not a jot that he was focussed on the ball.he was watching the ball throughout and not the opponent
When did we ever beat the Germans on penalties?Dust settled.
Was this one of the best England games ever ?
England 5 Germany 1
Beating Belgium with the late Platt goal 2-1
The Cameroon win in 1990.
The Dutch win in Euro 96.
Beating the Germans on pens ...
I think this game is definitely up there in the top 3
The Belgium 1-0 is definitely up there...Dust settled.

Not sure Josh' had any malice against Newcastle a few years back.Sorry, but you really cannot tell from a still photo.
For me, I wouldn't greatly contest the Balogun red card, since it was arguably reckless. But if you look at the video in real time, I really don't think there was any malice, the clue for me being that he was watching the ball throughout and not the opponent. Generally if you want to "do" someone with a tackle like that, you pick out your spot to strike on his body.
So if eg a defender and an attacker both jump for the same high ball and there's a clash of heads, and one player sustains a nasty injury, but the other is ok, do you consider the latter should be punished, even though it was a complete accident (on both players' part)?Malice is not relevant.

You're right, stills dont tell the whole picture.Sorry, but you really cannot tell from a still photo.

Maybe I dreamt that one. When did we ever beat the Germans on penalties?
I definitely think Mex v Eng was above those 2 then!!!Maybe I dreamt that one.
And yes Belgium win was 1-0 !
England 4 West Germany 2 is missing from your list and ranks above all others.Dust settled.

I'm not sure anyone remembers that.England 4 West Germany 2 is missing from your list and ranks above all others.
Why are you attempting to introduce a completely different scenario into this conversation? Intent is irrelevant when considering serious foul play.So if eg a defender and an attacker both jump for the same high ball and there's a clash of heads, and one player sustains a nasty injury, but the other is ok, do you consider the latter should be punished, even though it was a complete accident (on both players' part)?
I'm thinking eg of England v Ghana, where Jordan Ayew and Reece James collided, with the former coming off far worse: do you think James should have been penalised
Normal thread super-drift from that particular poster. Why are you attempting to introduce a completely different scenario into this conversation? Intent is irrelevant when considering serious foul play.
Contact above the foot that buckles the ankle is always a red card.
Don't think I've ever seen an England team battle and pull together like that last half an hour. Given the circumstances, players absolutely wrecked by the end of it. Going to sound abit cheesy but it's the proudest I've been of an England performanceDust settled.

So a complete accident which happens to result in an injury is always a foul? Why are you attempting to introduce a completely different scenario into this conversation? Intent is irrelevant when considering serious foul play.
Every challenge is, in theory, unique. So a complete accident which happens to result in an injury is always a foul?
Listen, I'm not saying Balogan's red card was wrong, since it was arguably reckless. But I do feel a degree of sympathy for him, since I genuinely don't feel he meant to "do" his opponent.
That's all, really.
This very basic stuff is all contained within Law 12.So a complete accident which happens to result in an injury is always a foul?
Only once? WOW!I'm not sure anyone remembers that.
I've seen it on vhs once.
You can tell a lot more from the slow motion video. He's nowhere near the ball and goes through the back of the player. Red Card, 3 game ban, move on.Sorry, but you really cannot tell from a still photo.
Would have argued with you that it was Matt Grimes on Jensen. Fortunately, I checked and you are of course correct. Strange how memory plays tricks! I was there as well which makes it worse!!This very basic stuff is all contained within Law 12.
Most serious foul play red cards are accidental (ie the offender did not intend to challenge in that manner). See JDS at home against Newcastle or Fulton on Jensen in the PO Final.
Gosh - same here. I would have sworn it was Grimes...Would have argued with you that it was Matt Grimes on Jensen. Fortunately, I checked and you are of course correct. Strange how memory plays tricks! I was there as well which makes it worse!!
