When I had a clean break in both my radius and ulna, I was only in a cast for about 4-5 weeks after surgery. Granted I was 14 and not 34, but I highly doubt it takes a full year. He ought to be ready by September in my mind.
Part of his return to work give him a lesser paying job until he recovers with insurance making up the shortfall a win win

You're probably right. The plaster might come off fairly quickly but getting full strength back is a long haul. I know that to be true because people close to me have suffered the same injury. It's a bit easier and quicker if it's a clean break and the bones don't need to be re-aligned.

I done my radius couple years ago, bloody painful and takes up to a year, still can't fully straighten my arm completely. Ouch!

It is amazing how you take things for granted until this sort of injury happens. When I broke my wrist ( radius and ulna which needed a plate put in ) 5 years ago it changed the way I had to live for weeks....no driving for a start...had to buy slip on shoes as couldn't tie shoelaces and life in general became very difficult especially as I live alone. Sleeping was a big problem as every time I moved in my sleep I would get a sharp reminder !!

I agree , looking back things were pretty good before my trimalleolar ankle fracture and disclocation . Could be another 18 months before I'm more mobile . " lucky "its my left ankle so I can still drive my automatic car .I still cant use my left hand properly after the dog broke my finger bolting at a cyclist and pulled my hand .
Quite. Football supporters tend to focus on when the affected party is going to be training or playing again. They overlook the obstacles to normal day to day living. Simple things like using his mobile, eating with a knife and fork, doing up laces or shirt buttons etc etc all become challenges requiring adjustment and help. In the first few days you rise to the challenge but it soon becomes an unending sea of tedium and frustration both for the patient and those trying to help!

I think it's more beyond comprehension, how one person can have such a positive, powerful impact. He must be one hell of a person /communicator/influencer.
