Can't even cross a f***ing ball!!!!!

Full Time: England 1 (Gordon) Argentina 2

No complaints - reverted back to type and sat back basically inviting them to cross the ball in or play it into the box continuously.

Had multiple warnings prior to the equaliser and then only 1 team winning the game with the momentum and no outlet

Do we have an escape clause in his contract? As he’s done. That was awful and obviously awful, and he should be sacked in the morning

I’m getting flashbacks to Fulham away 2 years ago, Port Vale LDV final and Wolves in the championship about 6 years ago ☹️

Understandable why he went defensive, but no answer to Argentinas attacking. No resl complaints, they have been the better team.

It's not understandable to me. They created nothing for 60 minutes why change with so long left? Why sit deep against a team with Messi in it and then not mark him? Disgraceful reversion to type. It's like we don't want to win.

Whole tournament our defence has been week, so he decides to defend for 30min and protect a 1 goal advantage

Talk about throwing away a game of football

Thomas Tuchel absolutely sh*t the bed with his defensive substitutions. That’s all folks

I’d keep Tuchel but have a new clause in the England manager contract which says you’re not allowed to sit back and defend when you’re in the lead. They all fkin do it and it never fkin works (well OK maybe sometimes against ropier opposition). Just forbid it.

Usual thing. Sitting back and poor defending. Argentina could have had 5.

We invited them on but the Argentina onslaught was impressive. If we had gone toe to toe and lost everyone would be complaining as well.

We were on top, comfortable, had the game we wanted... and we gave it over to them.

I genuinely cannot believe we dropped so deep and went 6 (SIX) at the back so early.

Bronze medal anyone?

Maybe less so I think

Poor second-half performance. The Argies, sadly, deserved their victory.

Gareth Southgate 2.0!!

I thought we weren't going to do that under Tuchel!

Tactical disaster area. You don't sit back on 54 minutes against an Argentina team with Messi in it.

A huge opportunity pi**ed up the wall!! :(

From the other thread - "Messi is problematical but IMHO the biggest threats are Lautaro Martinez and Nicolas Gonzalez who have been introduced with success from the bench.
We will need to score first I reckon to have a chance".

Disappointing end to a lopsided campaign.

Easy to keep attacking when there's no threat.

We invited the onslaught. Bringing on 9 defenders let's Argentina know to come at us and do what you want

I like Tuchel but he’s got this badly wrong. The Mexico rearguard was because we were down to 10 men. We gave up in this game as soon as we went 1-0 up.

We brought Tuchel in for moments like this and he’s completely fluffed itx

We invited them to bring on more forwards as we showed intent of just defending.
Even at 1-1 we sat back. To counter their forwards we brought on defenders.
Put attackers on and scare them.
One of their remaining defenders had a yellow. Run at him. Put him under pressure.

That was the football equivalent of total suicide.

We were pretty average but they weren't doing much.

The minute we went defensive, they could have scored 4 or 5. Why so early, FFS? Who would have thought that a defence that's looked shaky since game 1 wouldn't hold out for 20 mins against a team bringing attackers on for fun, who had also done the same to Egypt?

Really poor from Tuchel.

Didn't look like we were trying to win for most of the game, just not to lose.

Something in our psyche in these games makes us mistake ourselves for some amateur non-league team down to nine men against Manchester United in the cup. Pathetic. We have some of the best players in the world. Expected it from Southgate but I thought Tuchel would be more demanding. We had the game exactly where we wanted it and we threw it away, no excuses.

Would much prefer everyone to get behind Tuchel unless there is a preference for the likes of Eddie Howe to become the next England manager. He's had us playing exciting football for much of the tournament - which we haven't seen in God knows how long - and unless someone has Pep down the back of their sofa there is no better manager to lead us into the Euros. We're all gutted but that doesn't mean heads should roll.

Pep would 100% take the job.

Everyone knew all tournament long about how these balls were a nightmare for goalkeepers at range

So WHY WHY WHY did we decide to not press the man at the edge of the box? no logic behind it.
