Doesn't play as a 6 though...he is what I'd call an 8 in that he isn't just a defensive shield. My definition of the 6 role is similar to Argentinas Paredes last night.

Like you, and I imagine many others, I expected Ethan to move on. Perhaps a deal has been struck and the club are waiting till after the WC to announce it, all speculation of course. The only thing that makes we less certain he'll go, on the basis he'll want to stay in London and play reguarly, making a side such as Charlton a more likely possibility, is that often the prep for signing a Premier League defender who will expect a higher end wage begins months in advance, and is often announced as soon as the season ends. Again, that doesn't make it less likely he'll go, but I imagine if he was to go thsoe discussions with a potential club will need to be happening if not now very very soon.

I agree on Schuster. Interestingly he has also played as a DM before, only a few times though, so perhaps there's something in that too?

So whilst I'd never turn down the chance to see a new player join of course, unless one or two outgoings happen soon, I just don't see where any incomings will fit

Wouldn’t surprise me if Hickey is deployed more in this position

I mean, but that definition Rodri is also an 8 and so was Norgaard. And on top of that, that's not our formation, so if that's your definition we don't play a six.

And also, take a look at the formation Ukraine plays and where they have Yarmo. It's a 4-1-4-1, and Yarmo is the 1 ahead of defence. That certainly meets your definition of a six.

Not saying that he can't play there (actually I have advocated it as possibility previously) but that is not his role for us even if he plays there at international level. Assuming we dont deploy him as a 6 then I'd like a proper holding midfielder as an option should we require in certain games - not sure we have anyone at the moment and would give us a full array of midfield options 👍

Just to put my 2-pennyworth in, we have played a version of 4-2-3-1 for a while, so that means theoretically 2 holding/screening/DHM/№6 players. Depending on the opposition, one may sit a bit deeper and the other plays more box-to-box, or both rotate. Even with Nørgaard, we did something similar that I guessed allowed someone to cover deeper to allow him to get forward, where he also could spot penetrating passing moves.

Anyway… if we had a ‘perfect’ №6 (one who could do everything alone), it would allow the other to get more forward into central midfield which, in turn would allow a player like Damsgaard to play further forward as well. The challenge we have currently is that neither Janelt nor Henderson have got the sprint speed to do it, so need to pair with Yarmo.

My wild guess is that, with nominal attacking midfield players returning from injuries, we’re going to see different versions of the central 3 being used.

Yes, but maybe we think Hickey is already the potential answer there.. Ever since he joined people have wondered if he's better suited as a 6.

We rarely play a single pivot, usually have a double pivot.

But we have, and then Yarmo has played there.

I can almost guarantee we will not sign a player who can only play one role in our midfield. Yarmo playing in 3 different roles allows flexibility. Someone like Paredes wouldn’t, as he doesn’t have the skill to play another role.

Also, we have Konak.

I like the look of Thelo Aasgaard log Glasgow Rangers on the one viewing I saw of him at World Cup. Scored a good goal with good touches and up and down midfielder. In our price range and Norwegian

Don’t think Aasgaard is good enough. As a Norwegian I would love to have another norwegian in the team. Nusa or Schjeldrup would have been amazing, but probably out of range now. Patrick Berg could be a shout, a bit old, but had a really good WC and been good in CL. Jens Hjertø-Dahl could be one for the future, big strong midfielder.

Not a rumour, not a link, but I wonder if Arse will be looking for an experienced centre back with Saliba possibly out for months. Might they come sniffing?

They are already mildly linked with ex-Bee Konsa.

Given the number of games Arsenal are likely to play and known injury issues, notably Declan Rice, I can’t see them wanting to let Nørgaard leave.

Norgaard coming back( if it is even a possibility) would for me be a step back and very disruptive to the successful post Frank/Norgaard dynamic that was forged in adversity early last season.
