Jordan Henderson (Chelsea)

Last season we were a great fit for each other. Things move on. If he goes, thanks for the season and all the best.

Maybe, just maybe, he knows Keith is doing a great job and will be here long term, so will be restricted in his coaching influence that he wants to start inputting

Jordan Henderson (Chelsea)

Bizarre all round.

With respect to Jordan, especially given his age, I wouldn’t have thought anyone higher than us would be interested in him.

Linked to Welbeck too, clearly they’re freaking out over now having too young a squad and now need old heads.
Chelsea aren’t higher than us, at least they weren’t last season

Jordan Henderson (Chelsea)

Reckon he's been tapped up by Chesea as they want someone to tell them all the Bees' secrets so they can morph into a well-run football club.
I think they have looked at who ended up just above them in the table and thought they would just buy their key players. Litttle do they know.Could be the best bit of business the Bees do with a quality replacement.

This is weird to me. Can’t see why we would happily lose one of our players to go to a rival. He was decent for us last season. Not just the leadership, but for spells was our best midfielder. Even taking out the Brentford mindset - it’s odd that Chelsea, who I assume must fancy themselves as top 4 contenders, would see the likes of Welbeck and Henderson as the best solution, when both left ‘top’ teams years ago. As I say weird, can only think it has something to do with having homegrown players in their ranks.

I'm moderately concerned Chelsea might be starting to sort themselves out instead of just blindly throwing money at the wall but that's probably me giving them too much credit.

Not overly fussed - started well but wouldn't be anything more than a sub this season so get his wage off the books and get in a younger model 😉

60 replies in under an hour tells us the GPG is alive and waiting for the season to kick in…
Still far to many sober posts on here

Jordan Henderson (Chelsea)

Feel quite sad even though I don’t think it will weaken us if that makes any sense
I somehow don’t think he’ll be ready to play for anyone for a couple of months, plus we’ve recruited a very experienced pro and our current players are a year more experienced as well, so probably won’t weaken us on the pitch, even without potential recruitment. I’m sure he’ll be missed in the dressing room but I’d guess we can let him go with our thanks and use the salary elsewhere.

Jordan Henderson (Chelsea)

This will actually be quite a big loss to the club IMO.

At least the miserable Liverpool away brigade will have their wish granted.
Yeah, I'm anticipating the first wail of
HE NEVER LOVED US ANYWAY!!

Seems to universally acknowledged as a good team player hence his trip to the World Cup.

I'm a bit surprised we're willing to let him go for free if not forced to... the broken arm might be a factor if we're looking at the wages vs a reduced season of action. Or maybe he had an option of some kind given he was free in the first place (or maybe he didn't, no need for another page discussing about how contracts and options work 😊 )

Hopefully we have something lined up DM wise.

Jordan Henderson (Chelsea)

Not surprised he may not line up again for us but definitely surprised Chelsea are in for him. I actually thought he might retire after the world cup! The link to Alonso may be a factor here.

Jordan Henderson (Chelsea)

He was very important in getting through the first couple of months so a good signing just for that.

Got worse as the season went on though and the Liverpool substitution left a bad taste so if this means we’re getting a different midfielder then happy days.

Not sure what Chelsea are trying to do though.

I’m not sure it’s being proactive in sorting themselves out but rather they’ve tried everything else and nothings worked. Now they’re huddled in a room playing “oldest Englishmans playing in the Premier League’ bingo

They went for Xhaka earlier on, who, again with respect to Jordan, was much more of an inspired signing from Sunderland on the back of what he’s achieved at Leverkusen than this would be.

Jordan Henderson (Chelsea)

I don't think he's a DM anyway so I agree!!
What do you see him as then?

His decisions making was generally great and he controlled the tempo of the game much better than the other DM options we tried.

Can’t believe he had less than 5 goal involvements last season. He seemed to constantly look for the killer pass over the top and patiently recycled it when there were no runners or options. With better hold up play and players running onto second balls he could have bumped the goal involvements up.

Agree he had a bit of a fall off towards the back end of the season. Bit concerned about the lack of experience in midfield if we don’t replace him.

Jordan Henderson (Chelsea)

He did fine for us, the bigger loss is the experience and morale boost he probably bought to the squad.. if this means we're in the market for CDM then I'm happy enough with this!

Jordan Henderson (Chelsea)

Chelsea want him for a reason and I suspect it's related to his presence off the pitch. We're going to miss that.

On the pitch..... Meh

Good lad

Jordan Henderson (Chelsea)

Probably only managed 15 minutes per game on average. Best free up the place for someone who can be on it and capable for 90. Was not likely to play till Christmas anyway.

Jordan Henderson (Chelsea)

I often thought it was a bit more about him than the team.
Tried the Hollywood ball far too often, and far too often it ended looking more like us just hoofing the ball back to opposition. Couple of very good assists early in the season from it, mind.

Agree on earlier comments about leadership already being in the building too.

Although I can't see him getting many minutes, I'm surprised we'd let him go on a free. But if it's mutual, I guess we'd avoid having to pay his contract up - which would "save" more than we'd get for him

Jordan Henderson (Chelsea)

Agree He would have gone anywhere to make that wc squad
A mutally beneficial arrangement when Christian went. I could never see him playing for us after the wc, thought he might retire.

He did an excellent job for us on and off the field. Good luck to him in his future career and I’m excited at how we might try to replace his influence as both a player and an exemplar.

Liverpool behaviour summed that up. Did well early last season but 2nd half of the season his legs had gone. Hopefully frees up some wages for new signings. And players like Ajer and Hickey getting WC experience only going to benefit us
