There could be an uncomfortable but possible option C,that the club have decided that we can't rely on Rico staying fit.PG was mentioned recently he'd said in an interview that we have to take emotion out of decisions.Maybe rather than thinking ahead, they are doing it now.

It doesn't mean Rico goes anywhere just that he becomes more of a squad option rather than a starter.

Yes, but what about Hickey? Maybe this has been mentioned above but if we are after this guy (and not a number 6 though that remains to be seen), then maybe serious consideration is being given to a change of position for Aaron.

Granted, there are lots of ifs and buts here but something else must be going on, other than just concerns about Rico, if we are really considering signing another LB.

Not sure what the club think about Hickey's future tbh but personally although he can play left back i can't see him being 1st choice in that position.

Or maybe the idea is to keep Hicks as a full back cover and push Malick into midfield?

Yep, I had wondered about that too, but does he have any history of playing there?

I would think it extremely odd – or an unnoticed glitch in the analysis algorithms – that we’d be keen to recruit a young player who’s played most of his 40-odd games for club and country at left back and want to play him in another position.

If there’s any truth in our interest, I expect it’s been accelerated by knowledge about our as-of-today two left backs, Henry and Meghoma, of which we’re unaware.

I think we’re at a stage in the evolution of Brentford FC where we want players dedicated to a specific role, not utility players, and only use players out of that role in dire emergencies.

Yep, of my various speculations this did seem the most unlikely but, as you say in the middle para, it is probable something is going on.

I see more sense in this transfer now the developments in midfield have come to light…so hope we pursue this too. I’d also try and sign another rawish striker if we can buy that’s probably greedy!

El Hadji Malick Diouf (LB, West Ham, 21)

If both come off, then IMHO ....our leaders are aiming for a top 6 finish, so £10 on @7/1 and just because I think Mr B may be greedy another @ 28/1 for top 4.
Let's bee 'aving it.......🐝🐝🐝🐝👊
Diouf Sangare and El Mala is probably asking too much but all big statements of intent and wouldn’t surprise me if we did manage to pull them all off (or equivalents)

Somehow only just seen this, he was very highly rated before his move to West Ham. At 21 he can learn hell of a lot from Henry over the next year or so to develop. I'm sure he'll come fighting for a starting place and Henry will push him all the way.

You're the best part of a week out of date as West Ham have already said they won't sell. With their other dealings, they don't appear to need the money so think that's that. Personally I'm not much bothered as his defending doesn't seem up to much and we're well covered at LB anyway. An upgrade on our CM was always the priority for me so all my interest is on France.

We should know from the snake last season - if he doesn't fancy staying and playing in the Championship he'll be going. It's just where to and for how much. West Ham's options to keep him were heavily damaged once they were relegated.

Look what Arokodare did last week at Wolves to force his move to Ajax, but then again, dont know if we would want another snake at the club.

Clearly, the focus of the recruitment team is in Paris right now but there was a reason we were interested in a young left back with Premier League experience and I’d assume that need has not gone away.

Didn't work for Gibbs-White, Emiliano Martinez and many others. Every situation is different. Wissa isn't much of an example to encourage other players to behave similarly. He's basically dead meat.

Circumstances are different. Chances are that Diouf has a relegation clause which means his salary goes down. It might also mean that West Ham are obliged to sell him if the valuation is met. How would you feel if your employer said you had to take a 25% pay cut because they screwed up?

Also despite all their recent income they are going to lose a fortune in TV and matchday revenue. In their case it's slightly offset by the fact that Londoners have to cover the cost of the stadium but even so they will not be rolling in cash. And while they may be confident they can come straight back up, the Championship is unforgiving and nothing is guaranteed.

Talksport reported a couple of days ago he has a release clause of £85 million 😱.

Your comments in respect of the Championship being unforgiving are so true, however, what is important is what they believe, not what is likely to happen. I totally agree with the rest particularly the lower salary, and decrease in TV income. It has given me a smidgeon of hope!

El Hadji Malick Diouf (LB, West Ham, 21)

I tend to agree. It seems a heck of a lot.
Even if it did turn out to be true (v.unlikely imo), it means his Agent will have negotiated a big salary package to compensate, which would be further reason for WHU wanting/needing to sell now.

And in any case, the clause is in WHU's hands i.e. they don't have to hold to it, but could accept a (much) lower offer if it suited them.

Never mind EHMD, ..... we just thought you might like a taste of the big time with a successful club ....better luck next time!
