Mathias Jensen (Panathinaikos)

Yes, this is the well-worn method known as "tapping up." It used to be against the rules, and maybe still is.
Nothing wrong with speaking to players' reps. Otherwise Giles would be in the clink with 91 other people responsible for transfers in the top 4 divisions.

Mathias Jensen (Panathinaikos)

I think it would weaken us if he left but if he doesn't want to extend and he's blocking the pathway for Milambo and Carvalho there may be a case for getting it over with and maybe even getting a few bob out of it

I don't expect to see either of those alternatives fit enough to feature for the first couple of months of the season.

I’d guess Ben Ryan has a very cautious approach to injury returns and all those back in the squad will get very restricted minutes until the club is totally convinced they’re indivually up to it. We can’t persist the volume of long-term injuries we ended up with in the last couple of seasons.

In cold business terms, these are expensive assets and we need to ensure optimum use over time.

All of which points to a need for us to either keep Matthi or buy a replacement. My preference would be to keep the maestro assuming of course that he wants to stay.

As the rumour hasn’t expanded and Jensen appeared in the recent friendly, the odds seem to be he’s going nowhere.

Mathias Jensen (Panathinaikos)

Can't see much of a pull factor for Matti. Based on what an average player there earns, it seems v unlikely he'd get a pay rise. Much lower standard of football too. Unless he's massively valuing playing in European competition, it's a downward move in my view

Mathias Jensen (Panathinaikos)

I hope he stays…but hardly ever starts.

As this will mean Damsgaard has stayed fit and the new/returning midfielders are all doing well 😂

I think we could perhaps use him best by saying to Damsgaard go full tilt for 60 mins and then Jensen sprinting for the final half hour (unless Dams is still looking fresh as a daisy).

Are they *that* different? Damsgaard had more goals last season I think. Can’t remember if he got more minutes. Maybe Jensen has more vision for the pass, but Damsgaard is better at unpicking the low block or beating players 1v1?

I’d say there’s a significant difference.

Jensen plays a lot deeper, often looks for the ‘switch’ pass and gives defensive cover to our full back, particularly on an overlap;

Damsgaard plays closer to the opposition penalty area and looks for threaded passes forward, is prepared to get into the box and makes recovery tackles centrally.

Mathias Jensen (Panathinaikos)

That game was the first Brentford, and really the first football, game I properly watched. It's what made me fall in love with both the club and the sport, and feel like Jensen was a big part of that team and that season for me. I'd be sad if he does go, but I'd understand it if everyone feels it's the right time.
Days later, I can’t help having so many questions. You’re from Yorkshire…and just found out about this football thing?

I think Jensen HAS played deeper but doesn’t mean it’s his best position.
Personally I think he’s not good enough athletically / defensively and has only played there due to injuries.
With Sangaré/Milambo/Yarmo/Janelt/JDS/Konak all fit and available to play in the deeper of the three midfield roles then I can’t see any good reason for Jensen to get anywhere near the field unless replacing Damsgaard.

I think Jensen is more suited to playing deep than Milambo and JDS but agree otherwise

Yeah, it’s all whippet racing, ferret smuggling, rugby league, criccit and ‘ecky thump up there!

Haha, I was just never bothered about football growing up, I was more into rugby league at the time. I started teaching and kept getting asked by the lads if I supported a team, which I didn't, so I saw Brentford and thought, I'm a biologist and I like bees, that'll do 😂 Started watching so I knew what I was talking about, and the rest is history. Don't teach anymore, but still support the Bees!

We should start a club. Bees from Yorkshire who Follow RL and no Longer Teach. Should be loads of members. 😁 What’s your team btw?

Apologies @Edmundo 😁

Mathias Jensen (Panathinaikos)

Sure there's plenty of us 🤣 Hull KR, and that was pre them being any good, used to get a lot of stick for that haha. Yourself?

And yes, apologies @Edmundo ahah
Dewsbury (nominally). Dad was Batley long-sufferer, although he did some fitness coaching at Dewsbury. Sister is Rhino’s nut!

Sorry about this, Matti.

I fear our northern European connection is disapating post Thomas Frank and MB's ownership of a club in Denmark.

Intelligent, articulate guys.

But so are the Irish!

Don't think Danish domestic football is at its strongest anyway.

Mathias Jensen (Panathinaikos)

Crazy how this is still getting so much traction. Not even a whisper of news on this story for about a week. Unlikely he's going anywhere given he started and played 90 mins against Rennes.
