Our last French-Malian central midfielder was Toumani Diagouraga! Nostalgia hit!

We can only hope that Mamadou is able to emulate Toums and reach ~250 apps and win a supporters player of the season.
To be honest, if MS gets anywhere near the level we saw from TD in 2014/15 then he will go for £100m+

Sangare's just Malian.

Andrews: Sangare will be a massive player for us
Brentford head coach Keith Andrews on club-record signing Mamadou Sangare:

"Mamadou is a player we'd tracked for quite some time. I really like his qualities, firstly as a human being. Having had some conversations with him, I knew he'd fit into our group, which is really important. If that didn't happen then, regardless of talent, we wouldn't sign someone.

"He's an all-action midfielder; he really is a throwback, for me, in terms of what he can do. He's very comfortable on the ball, can play in different types of midfield formations, very tenacious, very aggressive and I've no doubt he's going to be a massive player for us."

With a translator? haven't heard the lad speak English yet.

Regardless of the linguistic detail, I too have no doubt he's going to be a massive player for us! Exactly what we’ve been missing from midfield.

Oh he’s extremely talented. Was more of a question if he knew any English.

If you watch his interview on the Brentford website, around 2.50, you will have an answer. I get the impression he is like Bryan in his first couple of years with us, he can speak English, but is much more confident to speak French in his interviews currently.

Well done for closing your naughty tabs on your browser before screenshotting.
A good example to all gpg-ers
Thanks for pointing that out. I hadn’t even noticed the other tabs on there. 😁

Nathan Collins in an interview today.

"He brings a lot of energy. He brings a lot of tackles and forward-thinking passes. He's just a really good footballer and a smart footballer. He speaks really good English so he’s settled in really nicely and to have him in front of you, it'll be a big help for all players."

Positioning is top notch, reads the game well. Might take time to adjust to pace of prem while on the ball for a bit but looks solid. Grew in confidence as the game went on.

Let’s not count our chickens. Proof of pudding is next week and forthcoming few months. But wow!!! Takes this form into the season proper and we worry about keeping him beyond Christmas ( Mr Cheery Chops in 😂).

Mamadou Sangaré

Very good and you can see the positioning, skill, reading of the game. Will
Certainly get up to speed but a little, just a traction of the pace after 45

Mamadou Sangaré

When a player like him arrives, it seems easy to specifically realise what it is that has actually been missing!

- and I don’t mean the novelty of two left-footers in midfield…

Mamadou Sangaré

To the tune of Agadou, dou, dou (😳):

"Mamadou, dou, dou
Born in Bamako, Mali.
Mamadou, dou, dou,
Runs the midfield for the Bees.
To the left, to the right,
He jumps up and down and wins the ball,
Come and dance every night,
As the Brentford win it all!"

Right, I'll get my coat.
This needs to happen. Way better than copying other chants.

Not intending to make this a debate about religion but after the god comments on the Frankfurt match day thread…

Believe Sangaré is currently our only practicing Muslim first team player. Had a look at when Ramadan is: Starts Sunday, 7 February 2027, and concludes on the evening of Monday, 8 March 2027.

Over this period the sun sets between 5:00 PM and 5:50 PM in the UK. So from a fasting - footballing perspective; he will be fasting for all Saturday lunchtime & 3PM and Sunday 2PM fixtures. Sunday 4PM will be breaking fast in the 2nd half (or close to the end) of games. Evening kick-offs are all after Iftar.

Something for the coaching team to consider. Sure a club as forward thinking as ours will find the best ways of managing his performances and wellbeing over this period. Hopefully all our midfielders are also fit for this period.

Given he’s had a few seasons playing professional football in Europe my hunch is he’s also personally able to manage this.

Isn’t Dango also muslim?

The following link may appear to be a complete irrelevance to this thread. I opened it, fully expecting to see our man's name up there near the top. Judge for yourselves. Definitely flying well beneath the radar. Let's hope Mamadou continues with his pre-season form but also continues to evade recognition elsewhere!

Apart from the Palace player I think that they’re all under 21, which suggests that they’re leaning towards up and coming youngsters?

There are plenty of French football experts who were very surprised to see Sangaré only end up at Brentford this summer. The fact the Mali international has just a single season’s experience in a top league may have counted against him, though Brentford look set to benefit from the hesitance of others.

Sangaré proved himself to be an eye-catching all-round midfielder at Lens last season. Across Europe’s top five leagues, only Elliot Anderson (8.26) and Exequiel Palacios (8.04) averaged more possession regains per 90 (900+ minutes) than him (8.01). And when looking specifically at possession won in the middle third of the pitch, his 4.7 per 90 saw him rank second.

Sangaré offered plenty on the ball as well. Only four Ligue 1 players tallied more secondary chances created (that’s the pass before the pass that creates a chance) than his 31. He uses the ball smartly and is a dependable presence in the buildup, both in terms of his distribution and ability to hold on to the ball under pressure.

From the Guardian's nine to watch this season

I don’t remember a player getting so much attention and such high expectation before his debut as this guy

He was relatively unknown and now he’s one of the great signing of this window, for any club

Looking forward to seeing him tomorrow. Hopefully he lives up to the hype, even if that takes time
