Personally, fully agree he has a higher potential then he has unlocked yet, but as Wingers go he has been effective with goal tally. Yes he’s had plenty of minutes but filtering for wingers… his goal tally has been very decent… 8 PL goals last year and 11 the season before that. Looks good compared to others on the wing. Those are decent numbers even when adjusted for minutes. I’m sure someone will counter this of course, I’m making no subjective comments about attitude etc. But based on pure goal numbers I think he’s good.

It's really strange that we can be really critical of what he does, and most opposing fans are absolutely terrified of what he does.

I don't imagine there are many defenders who rub their hands with glee at the thought of facing his pace!

Agreed. That’s why I thought let’s put the opinions around subjective aspects of Kevin to one side and just look at his numbers… and turns out the numbers are really very good. Better than some very established / high profile names. We’ve got a very good winger I think.

This is the reality of commenting on a player you never see week in week out. How many times have we been linked with someone and a short youtube highlight reel convinces everyone to splash the cash.

The Kevin debate has become exhausting, unproductive and at times even vicious regarding criticism. However, where I stand is that given the pace you've highlighted, I don't think last season will be one he'll have been particuarly happy with personally. If he is, than that would concern me more.

What I want to see is a Kev who wants to prove his ardent critics wrong, yes he works hard, but I want to see more hunger up top. Show us why Germany should have included you Kev!

Below is a reminder of the first Premier League goal he scored. Now I obviously dont expect him to whip this out every game, but it's been a while since I've seen that Kevin Schade. Puts to bed the myth he never smiles for one thing.
He was 21 then, he's now 24. Lot of people are saying he'll be great this season, so come on! Show us!

Dortmund have sold Adeyemi so kev could be of interest if they can afford him or want to spend that much ( which I dont think they will )

Yeah, I can go with that.

I think it was a season of adjusting for Kevin last season. With no Bryan, teams were paying him more attention, and you could see his visible frustration at not being able to do what he wanted to do.

We were slow to attack at times last season as the players adapted to the tactical tweaks, and that didn't help him, but his workrate and defensive output were excellent.

A fair point. His performance against Xg last season wasn’t great and both Kev and the coaching team will know he can be better than that. Thiago picked up a couple of goals from missed opportunities so it didn’t impact the team as much as it could have, but if he can be a bit more clinical then no reason he can’t match the 11 goals from 2 seasons ago. That’s a great return from a wide forward and only a handful of players across the division will match it.

Funnily enough I still think he’d have absolutely buried the last minute opportunity vs Liverpool if Dango had missed the header…

I truly hope he comes out of the gate hungry and ready to show people what he can do. I'm skeptical and have been a critic, but would obviously love it if he became the player he has the potential to be. First touch, decision making in the final third, and finishing all need improvement for that to happen.

If Klopp continues to play his style of heavy metal football as he did at club level, high intensity press and quick counter attacks, then Kevin should be an ideal fit.

One way of looking at it is to ask ourselves what we would think if Schade was a new £45m signing in this window. A German international with goals, pace, aeriel threat, defensive work rate and an outstanding YouTube highlights showreel, and young enough to still have development potential. The excitement would be off the scale. We would be saying this is exactly the kind of high profile high ceiling statement signing we've been trying to get over the line for years.

Brilliant performance today, a reminder of the quality he has. I hope he stays, signs an extension and puts in those performances week in week out. We know he’s capable, just needs that consistency as he has all of the attributes of a top winger and he could even be turned into a devastating striker. Then next year it won’t just be Roma after him and could be easily be worth upwards of 50 million. Sometimes we want these exciting new never heard of talents when we already have the answer here.

The goal involvements are great to see, but what really excited me today was his close control and link up play – historically the weaker side of his game. Some lovely little flicks round the corner and deft touches in tight areas. He looks ready to find that next level.

Interesting he drifted into the Thiago role today, see Goal 1 and Goal 6.
All eyes on Thiago, but it’s Kevin who caught the eye today.
Less defensive mode and his Billy whizz pace meant he was the Man of the match with 2 goals and an assist.

The window shuts in 2 weeks. I can’t see a set of circumstances existing where KS leaves this summer.

A good start to the season for him and us may prompt further conversations about his contract. I’d be delighted if he re-signed.

Firstly I was delighted that he even started today as it looked to the very untrained eye that he might have picked up a knock in the early game last week as he appeared to be limping slightly back to the changing room. Thankfully, it was minor if anything at all and today he put in a top class performance. We all know he's capable of it, this season it's time to show he can deliver consistently. Thinking I may have to mess around with my fantasy team again.

So sick of *statement of facts* I.e “you scored some goals/got some assists today, how important is it to score goals/get some assists?”

Every follow up question is the same, bland statement followed up by repeating that but framed with a “how” as a question, surely everyone is interested in a better interaction?

It's from the Chris Wickham school of interviewing I'm afraid. At least Chris recognised it wasnt for him and stopped.

It's just so poor. Who, what, why, when. The "kids kit" of questions that demand answers. It really shouldn't be difficult.

The one I remember most....after a goal for us, just after half time........ After match interview...."Was it important to get the goal so early after half time?

I kid you not. The answer you'll be surprised to hear was......... Yes

I completely agree. Very unimaginative. Often predictable and confirmatory. A few more open/ exploratory questions would be more insightful.

For example, which aspects of the team’s performance pleased you most? What have you been focusing on most in pre-season? What do the players see as achievable targets this season? How should fans expect our style of play to evolve this season? Etc.

There are so many angles an interviewer can take to elicit more revealing answers.

Surely you must know what's going on. The questions are being asked by the club's media guy. He is not paid to ask questions that require a great deal of thinking by the footballer being questioned. I gave up with such player interactions years ago, but I can understand why they are formatted in the way that they are. You can't ask a guy that is only interesting in kicking a ball around questions that require nimble thought and agility when the only reason he is standing that is because the ball went directly from his foot into the goal.

I think he'll be the first to admit he lost his way a bit last season. More petulance than confidence. Showed with his red card vs Villa and his performance against Xg.

On Saturday he looked really, really ready. Keen, hungry and sharp. I feel for Pedro Porro this weekend, but not really ;)

we could turn the frowning , non smilling " petulance " into frustration ? He plays on the edge , alot , some of the stufff he tries doesnt /wont come off .He was brillaint Saturday . I doubt Spuds will be so easy , actually I know they wont
