Bees' stingers working nicely, it appears.

As usual, I've seen nothing of the team/flow-machine up close, but this is a result to raise the hairs that cover the body...

A check-in to those teams that won't see us in Europe this season due to us being quick to the draw last season...

Goal difference...

something is solidifying...building mass...down at a certain bus stop...

Season to taste....

COYB.

Was surprised to see about 20% of the West Stand sitting in the 2nd half today. Know it’s a pre-season friendly, and most were not regulars, but pretty sure it says safe standing when buying tickets and there was seating space in all other stands, all at the same price. 🤷‍♀️

Really................... I took 4 of my kids in there today and they loved it. We sat and the boys stood when they got excited or had to.

It was out of the sun, we brought the tickets this morning, only other option was 5 tickets together in the East.

The whole standing debate is tiresome.

Yes, it is a "safe standing" stand, not a seating stand. If they want to sit then they need to go in the East Stand

The club really needs to signpost this firmly in the ticketing sales process.

Not to sit in the blazing sun all day.

Anyway..................... That was a very enjoyable afternoon.

Was worried that my two boys werent going to be keen for their first game (been though a lot in their little lives). But the minute we walked up to the ground they were both buzzing. Their little faces when they saw the pitch was a picture.

Jumped around for most of the goals and didnt get as bored as i thought they would. Counting the goals and shouting with their sisters.

A game where we made them look silly. All looks very promising.

A couple of minor downsides.

Physically, it felt like Damsgaard was quite a way behind the others. He doesn’t seem ready for the rigours of the start of the PL season. At his best he’s arguably our best player, so hope he gets up to speed quickly.

Wilson off the bench I can totally get “in addition” to Thiago - think he would actually be quite deadly playing off him. Chasing a goal, late in a game, carnage. I am worried however about him starting if Thiago was to get injured. He doesn’t seem strong enough in the air, or with his back to goal, or fast enough off the shoulder, to really be the single focal point.

If you & yours were in W230, I think I was the old bloke sat next to you. Agree that standing today would have been pointless with all the young kids around, so I sat & refrained from swearing (I think).

Ah @longtimeagobee !!!!!!!!!!! That was us. What a small world.

Wish i knew, sorry there wasnt much conversation, trying to keep the little ones entertained.

No swearing at all. A perfect neighbour for the game. :sorted:

In Wilsons defence the game was dying off by the time he came on.

Did a few tody bits but didnt get a lot of service.

I think I might have said to your young one that every game was like that, you might want to lower his expectations a bit😂

And Schade’s tackle of their RB for Thiago’s first might have been scrutinised more closely in a league match
I said that to my son immediately; us against a ‘big club’ and the ref would’ve blown immediately for a foul. Mind you, Ajer grabbing a player on a breakaway with both hands would’ve been a whistle and yellow card as well.

I thought similar last week at Rennes. At times they pressed us well and we'd have to go long and try to win the second ball. When Wilson came on, I don't think he really got near winning any of those long balls.

I thought the same. But barring an injury or a serious loss of form to Igor, he is not going to be a starter, but coming on for the last 10-15 when we need a goal

:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

That would have been Harry. Hes the one like his sister who had open heart surgery at a few weeks old.

Just to have him sat there at his first game in his bees top taking it all in was just wonderful to see.

Would this be an appropriate time for me to suggest my Kevin Schade - Kevin Carter Manic Street Preachers based chant again? I think it’s got legs.
I really hate MSP but I’ve always thought that would be a far better chant for him than the doowahdiddy one which is way too wordy and fast for me to even attempt to join in with.

Love the Manics and always will.
Anyway back too topic.

Were we that good today or were Eintracht that bad?
If we were that good then the PL better look out because we will batter many a team this season .
That was one great performance.

We could have had 10, such was the smoothness of our attack.

I recall seeing us beat Wrexham 9-0 in October 63, so I was hoping that we might have matched that!

Albeit that this was a friendly, teams do not just cave in to that level of score against, so a remarkable win.

Eintracht’s previous record defeat in the Bundesliga was also 0-7 in 1964.

Plus, there was the famous defeat 3-7 by Real Madrid in the Champions League Final in 1960 at Hampden Park.
In it’s time that was a headline defeat, and even now that score is unlikely to be ever repeated.

Everything has been said, but this win was the perfect confidence booster.

Everyone looked ready to go, and we seemed far more sharp, direct and very quick to attack.

The biggest plus factor we have is that virtually the whole team have played together now for many matches, and KA seems to have built on that strength, with Sangaré as a notable strengthening.

I’m starting to think that we can be good this season! EF are only a week behind us, in that they start in the Bundesliga on 29th August, away at Union Berlin. Similarly, I believe we were Rennes 6th PSF when we beat them last week….

They have a cup game next week so we're at same level of fitness

That was practically a judo throw. But both incidents demonstrate toughness and determination, and we'll need plenty of that this season.

Loved the fluidity of our attack as the confidence just grew and grew. So many great passages of play and the speed of the interplay was a thing of beauty. You can only beat the team in front of you, no idea how good Frankfurt should have been but we made them look like amateurs yesterday. Can't wait to see how we can perform in the coming weeks, this could be a very special season INDEED.

After coming back from holiday I was hoping to watch both friendly games on catchup, but sadly I can't find them anywhere.

I can’t think of a better example of our belief in POMO. We had 9 shots on target (and 1 hit post). The stats were a lot more even. If picking the ball out of the net is disregarded, then Kelleher was the much more involved keeper.

Their keeper was very poor though.

Yesterday reminded me of some of the best performances in our last two seasons in the championship. Our rotations in attack and quick passing had opposition players chasing shadows. If we can replicate that against Premier League opposition then it will INDEED be a special season.
One other aspect we were not afraid on occasion to go long to mix it up, an out ball the big 6 call vertical passing 😄.

Where was the foul?
Around half-way into our half in open play, I think Kayode had gone forward and we were left exposed by an out ball to a EF player. I’m not sure but I think the referee was about to stop the game for an EF player who had gone down injured near their box, so probably was looking in that direction.

Ah right, didn't spot that. Thought you meant Schade's challenge on the right back which was fine.

It’s a bit of a blur but it may’ve been that full back who went down, it was that area of the pitch.

Yes I thought so too but you can see refs blowing when we’re playing one of the “big” teams. Although not if they do it of course.

Kev goes past the defence, round the keeper and rolls it across the goal line, IT taps it in from 1 yard into an open goal, then runs of thanks God. He has some front doesn’t he.
Maybe he's thanking God for the air that he breathes, his health and his fitness. Don't really understand what his faith has to do with us anyway.

Not sure I get the point. Sangaré did the same (give praise to the god he believes in) after their keeper dropped a clanger for his goal. Personally just happy that we’re in a country where both of them can practice their religion freely, and those who choose to criticise the concept of religion in general can also do so.

Second striker now at his relatively old age if we're chasing the game?

But useful to perform some tricks of the trade if we are holding a lead?

That’s the incident I referred to, which I agree was strength rather than foul, but in a competitive match against one of the darling clubs would likely have been subject to debate amongst the pundits.

Possibly like Dango v Burn last season at Gtech where the ref booked Dango for being brought down first time before realising the next time that in fact Dango was having him on toast so all he could do was foul him.

We’ve seen referees give free kicks against us for an attacker daring to get close to a ‘big 6’ defender!

I think if we had Wilson as an option last season for the last 6 or 7 games we would be in Europe now, that for me is the difference, its fine margins. Dont expect him to start but pleased he is on board, its a squad game these days.

What do you mean? Maybe he was thankful for the chance being presented to him so well. Strange thing to complain about IMHO

He thanks god before, during and after game if I remember rightly. Highly religious man from highly religious country, thanking his blessings for where life has taken him after a tough childhood

That's how I read it.
