Mikkel Damsgaard

Mikkel Damsgaard

Struggles a bit against really good pressing teams, tries to play the same way but often loses the ball or gives it away.

In a similar way to how Jensen does, I think he needs to develop his game when this happens to concentrate on us keeping the ball rather than always looking for the progressive move.

There really times and places to play with his head up and look for an opening. Five yards outside our area generally isn’t it.

Mikkel Damsgaard

Yeah but that was more a system issue than a Damsgaard issue, that and everyone fell to pieces at the same time

Mikkel Damsgaard

Should have got far more minutes than he did, imo. That first choice midfield just didn't fire today.
I think the call on the timing of Mikkel’s substitution yesterday may have been influenced by him not being fully fit and an argument can be made about his recent appearances not being up the level we have seen from him before.

This photo showing his right knee heavily bandaged was posted on Saturday; that is not to say that we are not aware of his knee condition, but I haven’t noticed this in recent previous pre-match training images (I can’t remember the home game where he had a lot of strapping on his thigh).

I am, however, looking forward to an improvement between him and the strikers next season as this has been an area that definitely needs work where a good pre-season can help. As Mikkel is my favourite player in this squad I’m heavily biased in thinking that he’s sometimes too clever than the others and they need to raise their game!

I hope that he can get a good well-earned rest to enjoy the summer with his family and he can enjoy his child’s first birthday knowing that the league season is starting later this year.

I don't think that's been proven whatsoever. We've won one once since February, which was against one of the worst teams in the league, and failed to win against lots of the other teams down the bottom.
We won five out of six games against teams “down the bottom”.

Indeed. Our record against the top and bottom teams was fine.

It was the mid table teams where we struggled.

Selected points dropped against clubs finishing 7th to 17th:

Sunderland - 3
Brighton - 6
Chelsea - 5
Fulham - 5
Leeds - 4
Palace - 5
Forest - 6
Spurs - 5

Total - 39

Even claiming 5% of the above points would have seen us getting Europe.

He's great on his day, but needs to stand out in more games consistently , I did come away from the Palace match thinking I wish Damsgaard was more like Wharton.

Surely you would want Henderson, Janelt or Yarmoulouk to be more like Wharton and Damsgaard to be Damsgaard, one of the best attacking midfielders in the country?

Wharton scored his first ever goal against us and it was a daisy cutter the keeper had a brain fart with.

Glad to see you agree with me by phrasing it like a disagreement....are you the wife in disguise? ;)
"Down the bottom" obviously didn't just mean solely West Ham and Wolves 🤣
Doesn't matter whether you don't count Leeds, Palace, etc as down the bottom!
The point was someone was claiming that "Damsgaard and Jensen are too lightweight to play together effectively" has been "well and truly disproven this season."

If anything, our run of form with them both in the side together, has well and truly proven the assertion correct, rather than disproved it.

Mikkel Damsgaard

Damsgaard has the class to warrant a place in most PL sides of that there can be no argument but to me it's finding the correct role to play him in that is the problem
I think KA has mentioned he feels his best position is a floating 10, not restricting him to a designated position when we are in possession. Assume that would be in a 4-2-3-1 formation. With Denmark he appears to play in a wider position but not sure he has the pace to play there for us.

Indeed but as far as I'm aware the Danes love him in that role, which confounds my point, which is the correct role in which to use him

Not sure it's a problem for us, he fits into our system perfectly as a number 10 in the 4-2-3-1 formation.

It has nothing to do with goals, it is to do with dictating the match, finding time and space when others can't, being in the right place at the right time etc.
last season Damsgaard was very good, this season, only in a select few games.

We have set up a different way this season and dams has had a different job. He couldn’t be a further away on the spectrum from Wharton in style of play and kind of player, they don’t even play the same position

Last year it was electric counter attacks with 3 players he could slide in. This year it’s been a lot slower in transition with little outlet for him to exploit

Mikkel Damsgaard

Not in Denmark squad for game v DR Congo tonight.
Injured??

Mikkel Damsgaard

Google says rested along with some other players to take a look at younger players which is odd when you consider all of the midfield was over 30.
A lot of less familiar names in the squad, mind. It’s all a juggling act though, who’s fit? Who’s fit, but knackered? And so on.

Mikkel Damsgaard

Jensen played. That other guy played for the other team.

Any news from our Danish contributors on this?
At your service🇩🇰

Nartey was also a notable omission from the squad despite no current injury, and they've both been deemed fit to play by Stuttgart and Brentford, but the Danish manager says he's not gonna risk flaring up the injuries from the spring they both had.

So Dams sits these friendlies out, getting a break in order to be match-ready for nations league in autumn

Probably get slaughtered for this, and I was not beered up, for a change!!

Watched Mikkel warming up while match was on, it seemed his body language was showing lack of interest, the other two players were putting effort in, but Dams was less enthusiastic.

Love him, I just feel there is something not quite right, for some reason??

Couldn’t have been far from you as on the touch line for a change. Noticed the same.

Mikkel Damsgaard

Interesting observation. You’d probably want to know how intense he normally is in a warm up to judge it though, some players are naturally a bit more casual than others. From what I remember he was warming up with Wilson and Anthony who were both likely chomping at the bit to make their Gtech debut in a game where they both had fairly good chances of scoring. I’d personally reserve judgment on this till we’re a few league games in.

Agree, but we do not normally see that type of warm up during a match, maybe nit picking, but it seemed quite obvious as my grandson (first timer) asked if he was injured, which led me to watch more closely, hence my post.
Hope I am wrong?

Pre season sub warm up. Don’t read to much into it
